Some idiot on one of the airport Facebook-- groups moaning like crazy and stating that West Park is 'fed up'.with LBA. Shame. Well the airports going nowhere so perhaps the whole of West Park had better move!
Hasn’t Chris Foren stood in the council elections in that area. From memory he gets a very low share of the vote, and its actually gone down in the last few years.

Yes, it's my area (Weetwood, although I actually live in Cookridge) and he's been our Green Party candidate for the past two council elections. Sadly, neither he nor either of his couple of followers have ever dared visit my doorstep to seek my vote.
Probably just as well!

The YEP on Facebook have covered it now, and of course it's all relating to they who shall not be named. Vince Hodder quoted but pretty much mocked by the article and the lunatics.

The positive is that virtually every one of the comments on the article are pro airport. There was one woman suggested all late flights are diverted to Doncaster! 😅

What's clear is that despite the explanations given to the natives attending (which clearly were NOT all resident's of Cookridge ), they poured scorn on them and don't accept any explanation, preferring to believe the anti airport agitators. So it was a kangaroo court effectively. I'll give Vince Hodder credit for trying. He's a brave man. But, the old LBA Director, Gordon Dennison once said that people who hate airports will always hate airports and it's impossible to convince them of anything. How true.

I've just left my response on the YEP book of face. Most of the responses do back the airport which makes a change. I had to laugh when I saw one of the avatars of an objector who was featuring a picture of family members in a Disneyland setting. It just highlights the fact that these really are just a bunch of NIMBYs.

I'd rather he got no votes at all!

That YEP post is pretty brutal in terms of pro LBA. It’s incredible how YEP, BBC, The T&A don’t seem to grasp the wider public feeling

There seems to be two scenarios regarding the Council here.

One is that they are employing the services of a planning lawyer to try and find any reason they can to dispute the case(s) put forward by LBA for exemption, leading to rejection or partial rejection, and the possibility of an appeal by LBA if their legal advisors think they're on strong legal ground to do so.

The second is that the Council will accept that the legal arguments put forward are beyond dispute, legally sound, and exemption certificates are granted with the claim to airport haters that there was nothing they could do . 'Dont blame us' wont wash with the NIMBY haters of course, given the Councils role in this situation arising. They haven't accused the Council publicly yet, no doubt wanting to keep them onside, but if they dont get their way, things might well change, with
the Councils previous failures in monitoring and enforcement being laid bare. Not that it will make any difference. Just more noise and no doubt idle threats.

That said, having read the airports legal case several times, it seems to be supported by sound legal precedent and planning law. So it's going to be interesting. And vital. Lose this and I suspect we may find yet another alleged breach of night movements this year is confirmed on the basis that there are no exemptions. In that situation it's hard not to see Jet2 in particular being forced to reduce their night movement schedule in some way, which would seem likely to mean a reduction in their programme unless they replace some smaller aircraft with bigger ones to maintain the seats on sale - and that's unlikely for now, not least due to capacity issues within baggage reclaim and insufficient numbers of the new A321NEOs.

It's going to be interesting. What's the betting in a compromise to avoid this going further?

Wasting all this vital money on this whilst failing to realise the economic benefits the airport brings just shows you how short cited, unintelligent, lacking common sense, and moronic, our leadership is. Honestly James Lewis, Leader of the Council, and his deputy's, ought to be ashamed of themselves.

They should be sacked and removed. The council should be taken over my local people representing local interests. Not political party BS.

@White Heather what does a compromise look like? The slight alternation of what is classified as night time? Basically what was in the previous terminal planning application?

@Sherburnflyer92 you're not wrong but at this stage the legal process is the legal process and the numpties running the council won't have a say in the matter. Not at this stage. If they try to influence the decision it will open it up for an appeal from which point the evidence is looking hugely on LBAs side.

The reason why the greens are nobbling the Labour party.

I don't know.
Maybe grant some exemptions but not others with an agreement to let the matter rest. So, permit the quieter jets but not QC1 departures at night. There are other options.

It's quite uplifting reading the pro airport comments which display anger and frustration towards the NIMBY whingers over this issue. All but a few comments seem to be pro airport. I hope the YEP read these messages and learn, but just in case I've also added my comments as a prompt.

Also just added my comments to the YEP article for what its worth as I doubt anyone at the newspaper will bother to read the comments, but we have to do something to stop all the negativity towards LBA driven by a few hundred NIMBY's. Many thousands of jobs here are at risk all for the sake of a few hundred protestors. If they don't like it they should clear off to some remote Scottish Island were they can live a peace and quiet. Oh sorry no doubt they'd then be complaining about the sheep baying through the night.

No doubt. I can just see it in the Highland Gazette or BBC Scotland....

'Yes there were sheep here when we moved in, but not as many as there are now. Keeping me awake. Much noisier than they used to be. I need my sleep. And then there's all that lethal methane poisoning the atmosphere too. Baa Baa. 🐑🐑🐑 Blah. Blah!'

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
