On a cosmetic front, I hope the blue coloured terminal section adjacent to the extension is at the very least, painted grey!!
As its probably blue cladding, that's unlikely as I'm not sure how successful painting over cladding would prove to be. But I agree it would look better . That section has always looked odd since the day it was built.

It was one of the piecemeal add ons the council used to do 🙄 #LeedsCityClowncil

To be fair, it wasn't just Leeds City Clowncil although it WAS their plans panel that approved it. But at the time Bradford Clowncil were equally responsible, with the Chair of the airport alternating between the two cities -.whilst Kirklees & Calderdale weren't squeaky clean either.
So let's not blame Leeds for everything exclusively. It might look rubbish but at least they approved an airport extension without a fuss

The renders showed the lower 1/3rd cladding being a darker grey, looks odd being the same colour just with a different panel layout
I dont think its possible to make a clad rectangular box look like anything other than a rectangular box.
Early days yet to comment on how it looks, best to wait until all the cladding is in place before passing judgement?
I assume its going to look like the image on the airports website.

Hence the need for landscaping in front of the building as I mentioned previously. A rectangular box is never going to look interesting and by definition is bland, but carefully designed areas of planting and trees in front of it breaks up the monotony , disguises the shape and crucially, adds colour. The renders show landscaping so personally I'm not judging until the building and landscaping are completed . Even then,.I'm more
interested in it's impact on the airport than how pretty it looks.

I like it because its balanced out and not just one big all grey rectangle box, the design has the dark section at the btm which is a sensible place to have it been darker, and roughly 3/4th up what appears to be a dark tinted window section, with the light grey everywhere else, the design will give it a longer length look. Perhaps what might of give the design an even better look would be more tinted glass, maybe like the front of a car show room.

The landscaping around some areas of the airport looks dire, especially on Whitehouse Lane. The trees/hedgerows are too overgrown and although planted to hide the buildings and carparks look completely unmanaged and need a severe trim. I do hope the airport don't go overboard with planting around the new building.

They'll plant whatever is in the agreed plans. As with all planted areas, over time they will look like a dogs dinner unless the airport commits to a regular landscape maintenance programme, including litter picking. Nothing looks worse, and attracts unwanted vermin, better than shrubs and plants full of litter.

Personally could think of better sporting icons to represent Yorkshire's Airport rather than the Leeds bias there but I get the sentiment. That said I am attending an audience with Kev next year which I would guess will be excellent, and I am sure lots of references to his pal who was taken from us way to early
The problem with sports icons is that whichever club they represented there will be others who support other clubs that don't agree. Few would argue over Rob Burrow and Sir Kev, but then there's the football fraternity, maybe cricket, and various other sports personalities. To avoid upset it's better to not go there in my view. I've never been a fan of naming airports after people no matter how amazing they may have been.

Had a run past today and the whole place feels so much bigger. I am not rightly fussed about what the cladding looks like but a big mural of Rob Burrow and King Kev on it would be my choice. Loads of sporting murals all over Leeds so it would very much be in keeping with this theme.
Are you suggesting #BurleyBanksy and paint it like the cable boxes 🎨😎

I did hear a rumour that the airport was to change names to Leeds Bradford Tracy Brabin international, in honour of our esteemed mayor and her new found muted support 😂🫣 perhaps she can arrange an executive lounge for all her colleagues to have another freebie, in their donated clothes🤔

If we went down that avenue then Yorkshire cricket is probably a good one as more widely representing Yorkshire. But as you say @WH it could get contentious. Would be interesting to know if all those in NI approve of George Best or all those in Liverpool approve of John Lennon, because in just the same way as supporting different Teams, not everyone is/was a Beatles fan

I think the airport could get a couple of cheap wins in terms of aesthetics.

First, the main sign on the existing terminal's front elevation is poor. It looks like it was erected using scaffolding. A new sign attached to the building's facade would look miles better.

I agree with White Heather about landscaping and tree planting. Airports are hard urban landscapes. Trees and hedges would break up the hard landscaping and create a more pleasant environment.

There are also weeds growing out of the pointing of parts of the terminal building and heavily stained parts of the facade. A good clean could do wonders—again, not expensive.

Perhaps some of this is in the pipeline as part of the ongoing development?

according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for your kind donation to our running costs Jenny.
I've done 2 minibus tours with Mountain Goat this week. Monday was North York Moors with over 600 photos and today High Adventure in the Lakes with 750. photos. Slightly snap happy.
I've asked Gareth Southgate for the winning lottery numbers. He said 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
