EMA pretty much gave up on the passenger side a while ago, it will push for more freight, I wonder if Brexit will be a good thing for the airport or a bad thing maybe short term with the situation at the ports places like EMA, Stansted and DSA could see a short term uplift.

At the end of the transformation, DHL Air will remain based out of East Midlands but will predominantly serve North American and Asian markets.

Great news for EMA and its continued success as a cargo hub.

I follow a UPS 757/767 Captain on Twitter. Ken Hoke (@aerosavvy) is US based and does Asia, with occasional sortie to EMA. Excellent photos and insight into life as a cargo pilot.

Hi,

I wondered what ever happened to Servis Air Freight the Customs Bonded Building.

I used to visit every night in the late 1980s and I was always pleased to see a French girl working their - anyone remember.

I had an import/ export airfreight background at BHX I was the first DHL Import Agent based in the Elan Intl Warehouse clearing/ transhipping inbound DUB/SNN/ORK parcels.

Best wishes,

John

Very impressive aircraft.

I flew on BA001 LHR - JFK at 1350+mph on Concorde mid 80s as free DHL Courier.

However, Concorde wouldn't hold one ULD 5 container whereas the B777 holds ?????? (don't know)

‘Express’ Parcel Freight EMA arrives/ departs from which Origin Airports?

I notice DHL + Charters (Aero Logic?, European Air Transport, Kalitta Air, Atlas Air, ASL Airlines, Star Air?) Aircraft fly in from CVG, JFK, EDI, LHR, BFS, DUB, BAH, LEJ, BRU, CDG, OSL some most weekdays and others once per week/ ad hoc.

UPS Aircraft fly in from PHL, but there main hub is STN, CGN, MEM

I think Fedex fly to LGG

I don’t think any of the Express carriers use BHX – I know FEDEX did many years ago

DHL have added 2 daily flights from Delhi & Dubai with Aerologic 777F all originating in HKG.
Also added some Inbound Lax with the DHL Air 777F
Also Cargojet should be back in September operating JFK-EMA-LEJ

DHL Air have also added 2 more 777F’s to their fleet G-DHMC & G-DHMD

I wouldn't say that. The airport is investing in the region of £100m in passenger facilities. That isn't giving up. There does seem to be more of a focus on freight traffic though and this is without a doubt due to its location central to the UK and with excellent road links via the M1.

Maersk Air are the latest cargo operator into EMA, 3 weekly 777F from Hong Kong via Navoiy. Operates Mon/Wed/Fri.

Also will be some F1 charters upcoming

Thur 5th - QTR 777
Tues 10th - CLX 747
Thur 12th - National 747 & x2 QTR 777
Fri 13th - CLX 747

The 77L flights to EMA operate a different route to the Maersk 767 into BHX so hopefully not in short term anyway however Maersk are moving their UK head office to East Mids in January and are rumoured to be starting a UK registered airline so if that's correct I can only think everything will be EMA oriented probably sooner rather than later.😔

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.

Well over 4 million steps taken this year already. And about 12,500 photos.
The joys of travel. Train from Edinburgh to Leeds is cancelled so having another night in Edinburgh and heading back in the morning!
Tbf Edinburgh isn't a bad city to be stuck in.
