Eurowings, Lufthansa Group’s value airline, will fly directly to Berlin from Newcastle Airport next summer, operating flights every Thursday and Sunday from 1 May 2025.

The airline, which was awarded a four-star airline rating at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, already serves the North East of England with year-round flights to Düsseldorf and recently celebrated 10 years of flying from Newcastle Airport.

The new service will be the only regular, direct flight to Berlin from the North East and Yorkshire regions and will provide passengers with a fantastic opportunity to explore the popular destination - which was recognised as one of the best European city breaks by The Times, The Telegraph and CondeNast Traveller this year.

The city is home to historic monuments such as the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag, has a diverse and delicious food scene and families can enjoy a vast array of attractions, including Berlin Zoo and river cruises

The route announcement comes after Newcastle Airport recently made history by becoming the first UK Airport to be recognised as the best in the world at the Routes World Conference.

The Airport also retained the global ‘Best Airport’ award in the 0-5 million passengers category for the second year running.

Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle Airport, said: “We are delighted to see further investment from Eurowings with new flights to Berlin next summer, complimenting the airline’s existing route to Düsseldorf.

“Berlin has always been a popular destination for the North East travelling public and we have received lots of customer feedback asking for a direct service - so it is fantastic Eurowings is launching this new service next summer. I am positive the route will be hugely popular with our customers.”

Reinald Frankewitz, Head of Airport & Network Relations at Eurowings, said: “The new connection between Newcastle and Berlin is a real gain for both airports and their passengers.

“The German capital with its eventful history and urban present is an exciting destination, and I am sure that many travellers from Berlin will use the convenient direct connection to explore the North East of England.”

Flights are available to book now at www.eurowings.com or with your local travel agent.

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
