I dont think we should complain or criticise as I suspect whatever political party was in power mistakes would have been made. Maybe not the sames ones, but quite possibly worse decisions could have been made.

Absolutely. However, the repeated calls by the industry for tailored support were not answered until the whole economy faced server hardships. The repeated calls by the industry to work with/aside them regarding the traffic light system again were ignored. The knee jerk scaremongering actions in December were uncalled for.

I'm basically saying people need to realise this government failed this industry. And highlighting that the industry did everything it could to call for help and specialised packages of support, try work with the government last year and into this re: traffic light system, try work collaboratively with the government to try be in a much better position in June 2022 than it currently is. But was ignored.

Hence now why we've lost a rotation from TUI on the PMI due to the Swissport staff shortages over at Manchester.

Ok I know the aviation industry is hurting at the moment for most UK Airlines, Tour Operators and Airports.

BUT! Please let's not turn this into another Covid thread, I've really have had enough of it over past 2 years thanks..

Couldn't agree more fed up of reading the same old political rant after all airlines like Jet2 and the airline everyone loves to hate Ryanair seemed to have managed pretty well unlike others who made different decisions BA, EasyJet and Tui spring to mind and likewise certain airports are coping better than others.

There were many sectors of the economy who claimed special status.

Just a thought regarding who is to blame and not blame. The industry is saying they were only given 3 days notice when they need 12 - 15 weeks for personnel to train and get security clearance if they knew this why did they put so many extra flights on so quick? Everyone involved in the fiasco is to blame in some way from the the so called health experts , Goverment Ministers, the opposition, union leaders, press, airlines and the airport bosses.
What now is needed is for everyone to work together and to stop the blame game because this will not solve the problems it will only make it worse .
This will never happen I know but we can live in hope.
It's understandable that airlines that had been losing huge amounts of money, and in some cases taking loans to survive, would wish to sell every flight they could after the pandemic brakes were taken off and in response to huge demand. It's hard to understand though why some sold far more seats than they could possibly operate. Jet2 and Ryanair have done well, consequently the cancellation rate at LBA is very low (except Flybe and there the reasons are different,).

Airports though have contracts with airlines and were not really in a position to restrict the flights airlines wanted to sell. It would not have gone down well if, for example, LBA had told Jet2 it could only sell a set number of flights because it was struggling to recruit staff in time. And let's not forget that these flights were on sale long before the restrictions were lifted by Government and before the Government introduced additional security checks which lengthened the recruitment process, so had the airport tried to restrict flight numbers (which might well have been a breach of contract anyway), it would have forced airlines to cancel many more flights.

Yeap it's was
Read today that the head of UK operations at TUI said, if DSA closed, flights could go to LBA. Anyone know any more?

It's on the Yorkshire Post website here.

It’s that the first time that we’ve had senior management actually say they’ll move into LBA.

A seasonal base or permanent? Does LBA have parking stands for more then an additional TUI as there’s 3 currently at DSA.

I wouldn't see us getting any more than one based unit, mainly because of the competition that already exists at LBA. Happy to be proven wrong though. But equally parking space would be a problem. Think it may be time for LBA to create these extra stands that they say they can do ahead of the terminal extension. We could be bursting at the seams next summer, something we ain't far from already. The recession may just peg back some demand long enough to give the terminal time to be done. We dont want potential extra pax put off at the first hurdle! So maybe we have the Terminal Ultimately Initiated and done in a Wizz!!!!!!!!

A one aircraft base isn't normally economically viable.
