CWL should be doing so much better, BHX had more pax in Aug 1976 than CWL in 2023 - as a comparision

CWL is still struggling to get the passenger numbers back to where they were, still over 50% down on 2019 figures after 4 years. I wish somebody in the Welsh Government would come out and speak to the media, and push the advantages of flying from CWL to the South Wales residents.

It's hard when airlines like Easyjet don't want to operate to you or major routes like Edinburgh have been gutted. In August 2019 saw 11,451 passengers use Edinburgh, August 2023 saw 1948 use the route. Another major route that has been gutted is Mallorca, it saw 20,830 passengers in August 2019 and August 2023 it saw 9075 passengers use it and that's not looking at the lost routes.

It's hard when the options aren't there, people will fly from CWL if the routes and flights are there.

Yes unfortunately many people in CWL's catchment area, don't even look at the CWL website even for routes which are operated from both CWL and BRS, they immediately look for Easyjet or Ryanair at BRS. Price means everything!

One of the challenges as well on search engines is like google flights is that if people put in flights from Cardiff to say Alicante it also brings up the options for Bristol as well and often suggests this flight especially of it's cheaper.

Thanks Scottie, it appears that the domestic passengers are the only ones showing improvement this year, which is surprising considering the prices, but still very welcome.

It’s great to see such a rise in domestic passengers - as Geoff said, that is a surprise but hopefully translates to more frequency on those routes.
I’m not surprises with the international numbers given Wizz made up a great deal of seats on popular routes. We’ve seen a fall in the number of seats available to routes like ACL and FAO and PMI.

Disappointing figures for October, only bright light, is the domestic figures showing 113% on the annual moving total. It will be sometime before we even get back to 1 million passengers. Thanks Scottie for your time spent on compiling the latest batch of figures.

I’m assuming the drop can be attributed to Wizz leaving. I do think had Wizz stuck around they would have done fairly well. Nevertheless it’s good to see domestic doing better and should show airlines there’s demand to increase frequency and capacity over the next 2 years.

Fingers crossed the numbers can be recovered next year.

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.

Well over 4 million steps taken this year already. And about 12,500 photos.
The joys of travel. Train from Edinburgh to Leeds is cancelled so having another night in Edinburgh and heading back in the morning!
Tbf Edinburgh isn't a bad city to be stuck in.
