More problems for PIA.

One of their 733s landed in Muscat today (11th) and suffered left landing gear collapse causing damage to the gear, wing and engine!

Can't believe it but Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been bailed out yet again this time with around Rs100 billion been invested by the government over the next 5 years.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: Eighteen days before the end of its term, The government approved on Tuesday a record Rs100 billion bailout package for the ever-bleeding Airlines. The committee approved an “interim business plan” presented by the PIA management for five years.

The bailout package will allow the Ministry of Finance to issue fresh guarantees of Rs49 billion during the current year to help the airline cope with its liquidity problems.

The committee decided to ask the Ministry of Defence to arrange payment of $46 million by the Ministry of Finance with or without government guarantees to enable PIA to acquire five narrow-bodied aircraft to replace its ageing fleet.

It approved a proposal to extend loans and guarantees of Rs33.5bn till June this year and allowed the airline to borrow Rs13.5bn from the National Bank of Pakistan against a letter of comfort to be subsequently replaced by federal government
guarantees.

The committee stated that the measures would help PIA to achieve fuel efficiency through fleet modernisation, optimum fleet deployment on network, introduction of additional frequencies on high-demand high-yield routes, enhance revenue and increase its market share, separate the core airline business activities from non-core activities and restructure its liabilities to reduce its financial cost.

PIA pilot lands aircraft at Heathrow airport despite refused by control tower

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilot Tariq Ranjha put the lives of 70 passengers at stake on Sunday as he landed the aircraft at LondonHeathrowAirport in London despite bring refused by the control tower.

According to sources, the control tower denied the request of landing the aircraft in the city due to the weather conditions. However, Ranjha kept insisting on landing the aircraft in London as the medical condition of a passenger, named Qasim Abu Bakar, was deteriorating.

He kept flying the aircraft in the skies of London despite the bad weather and also wasted fuel worth of millions. The control tower kept sending the message to the PIA pilot to divert the aircraft towards Manchester and Leeds.

PIA are to lease up to 4 A330's from Sri Lankan. The first is to be based in London flying to Islamabad and Lahore, they are in talks over a further three.

State Enterprise Development Minister Kabir Hashim said SriLankan Airlines was about to conclude a deal with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to lease out one Airbus A330.

"The aircraft will be operated for PIA by Sri Lankan crew and it will be based in London," Hashim told reporters.

"It will fly to Islamabad and Lahore and we are also in talks to give them three more Airbus A330 planes," he said.

It's probably worthy of a mention that PIA are introducing a new livery to the A330 they're introducing. Supposedly the new livery looks rather swish. Anybody got wind of what other new routes PIA are planning with these birds yet?

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane was diverted to Stansted Airport in London owing to a bomb threat.

According to PIA’s station manager, flight PK-757 asked permission to make an emergency landing at the Heathrow Airport. The authorities, however, denied the request due to security concerns and diverted the plane to Stansted Airport.

The plane carrying 150 passengers was flying from Lahore to London.

The bomb threat was made by phone some 30 minutes before it was scheduled to land at the Heathrow Airport.

According to the report, the pilot of the PK-8303 did not follow the procedure and he was overconfident.




The air traffic controller is equally responsible for the incident as he did not asked the pilot to make landing instead of taking off when the engine hit the runway, the report said according to sources.

The report has been prepared with the cockpit voice recorder data, planes debris and other evidence collected from the crashed site by the probe team.

Aircraft Accident and Investigation Board (AAIB) led by Air Commodore Muhammad Usman Ghani has presented the preliminary report on the PK-8303 crash to Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan.

It must be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had asked the federal minister for aviation, Ghulam Sarwar Khan to produce the investigative report by Monday.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan had assured the prime minister of bringing forth the preliminary report and will present it to Imran Khan tomorrow, sources privy to the development claimed.

The Air Accident and Investigation Board (AAIB) commenced technical probe of the ill-fated aircraft PK-8303 plane’s debris collected more evidence regarding the crash on June 19.

Earlier on June 2, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had pointed out in a report regarding ‘violations’ made by pilot of ill-fated PK-8303 aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) which was crashed last month.

The Civil Aviation Authority’s Additional Director Operation had sent a letter to the safety department of the national flag-carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The copy of the letter was also obtained by ARY News which stated that the pilot of the Airbus 320 aircraft did not follow the instruction of the air traffic controller (ATC).

The report was followed by the written response of air traffic controller (ATC) and approach tower controllers which had been submitted to the investigation board on May 26 during the probe of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane, PK-8303, crash incident.

The captain had asked the ATC that he will adjust its altitude and speed before landing, however, he landed the plane without opening landing gear during the first attempt. The ATC added that both engines of the aircraft were badly damaged after hitting the ground as the plane landed without opening landing gear.

It seems that the captain forgot to open the landing gear while maintaining speed and altitude of the aircraft, said the air traffic controller.

On May 22, flight PK-8303 crashed in Model Colony near the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, killing 97 people while two miraculously survived.
