For those who like a bit of 'tenuous link conjecture', one of the people who 'liked' Chris Bosworth's post on LinkedIn about his new role at CWL is Jon Davies, who describes himself as "Founder, Owner and Chief Vision Officer of Avooma Airlines." https://flyavooma.com/ - Avooma merged in 2024...
I've often wondered if Sean M works for one of the bodies who are involved in the commercial airline route approval process in the UK - there are up to 3, depending upon the route (ie UK domestic, European etc etc)
To avoid adding any fuel to the rumours, let's be clear that I have no inside information! However, having worked in commercial aviation for over 30 years, I have a reasonable feel for what makes things attractive for airlines- and I also think that the 'new' route development team at Cardiff...
Re Geoff's post re
KLM are advertising "Flying from Cardiff" very extensively on Discovery + - but it does seem to be a generic advert, with the local airport name being inserted by a bot dependant on the viewers' location!
To follow up on Jerry's point, let's not forget how and why Welsh Government got involved in the first place. The airport was owned by a consortium of local authorities who, in 1995, sold the airport TBI. In 2005, TBI were bought out by Spanish firm Abertis. In 2015, Abertis shut down its...
Although very unlikely, in terms of options, let's not forget that Vueling has a base at Orly and serves around 20 destinations from there including LGW and DUB. Just sayin'!
I agree with the sad view that the Doha route is not to return - the route was very dependent on the flow of non EU students and their families to the south Wales universities, but the changes in UK government immigration and Visa rules has effectively decimated that market, to the detriment of...
A very well considered and constuctive review! It's very encouraging for CWL - let's hope many more have such a positive experience.
Having flown from both CWL and BRS quite a few times in recent years, I much prefer CWL...but I am quite biased, so a more 'balanced view' is good!
I reckon the relative 'poor performance' since Covid is due to Loganair not operating daily as a minimum and flying at unfriendly times. The pre-Covid demand is probably still there, but using BRS. A good opportunity to pull back some traffic from our neighbours!
The following article reviews a new Honeywell system aimed at avoiding aircraft collisions on runways. The link to Cardiff is that the report was drafted during a testing session undertaken recently at CWL (17th and 18th June) by the Honeywell 757 testbed...
I guess it's a bit of fun - but not necessarily appropriate - to speculate on who may be travellers on executive aircraft. On this occasion, there is stuff in the public domain that makes me wonder if Cardiff City may be about to announce the signing of an Icelandic footballer....
