Lahore, Punjab, is also there with 3hr stop over connections.
My intention was just to convey that Saudia offer a number of destinations in Pakistan, and that people of Pakistani heritage living in the Midlands may not necessarily just be going to Islamabad as you implied in your earlier post...
Just checked their website, they offer 3 destinations I recognise as being in Pakistan, Islamabad, Multan and Karachi.
Karachi seems OK for connection times to me at just under 3 hrs. Wikiedia shows Karachi population at 14m+ vs 1m+ in Islamabad.
The other connections are not so good but they...
Birmingham has a large Muslim population. Nearly 30% of residents are Muslim and 17% from Pakistan alone.
With the absence of PIA I imagine some of these passengers are now picked up by Saudia.
Jeddah airport also serves Mecca which sees tourism all year around.
You can also earn/redeem...
Another factor I see that creates bottlenecks at arrivals is the way that passengers are bused to the terminal when they don't use a jetbridge.
The ground staff always wait until all the pax are on both of 2 buses before driving to the terminal, where if they filled the buses one at a time they...
Escalators are used extensively in airports all around the world without problem.
If there is an issue here it's caused by a bottleneck in the building design not allowing enough passengers to travel through the aperture into the arrivals hall. As long as there is enough clear space at the...
Totally agree, when you hear someone blaming health and safety you know they have run out of ideas, surprised he didn't say GDPR or Brexit.
At the risk of stating the obvious, hasn't the capacity actually decreased by 40%?
To put it another way the new scanners would have to be 75% quicker...
Interesting artilcle in the Telegraph that brings a bit more factual foundation to the scanner issue.

It appears a number of companies make these scanners.
BHX is using Smiths Detection...
I read an article in the Times today that named Manchester as the worst airport in the word.
Whilst I take that with a pinch of salt a quick search on "the worst airport in the world" saw Manchester listed many times,
I don't happen to agree with that sentiment but if you pursue the numbers...
If you look at the organised activities you get sold in Birmingham on the likes or Expedia, Get Your Guide or Viator you can why it's difficult to promote stuff outside London on blogs etc as there are very few local experiences being sold there.
For example I can buy a trip to Bicester...
Has anyone tried Saudia?
I know you can't have an alcoholic drink for the entirity of your journey but what is the food and entertainment system like?
Is there enough English language content to keep you occupied on a flight to Singapore for example?
I don't agree per-se that Birmingham and the wider Midlands area cannot be marketed to Americans from a tourist perspective but I think this is something airlines are not particularly good at doing, tour operators are maybe a bit better. But realistically no-one is going to market it unless...
I can't see this in any of the press articles, are you able to post this one please?
Having looked at the news the queues definitely happened day after day for months. I agree the situation is better later in the day but no-one had indicated the time to book your flight if you want to avoid...
So the software works fine after 11am?
Regarding the press, Twitter etc, no-one has ever said the queues last all day.
The airport clearly struggles to deal with the amount of flights scheduled in the morning.
I don't agree that this ever was the airport's line. People were missing flights and they were saying "you need to get there earlier". At the end of the day you can't dictate the precise time passengers arrive at the airport, they should be able to arrive at their convenience, be that 4 hours...
I'm just going from the statements, liquids are the main issue, other factor is the software, which is a new one as of this article.
This may be the case but it's not something Nick has highlighted. Indeed, just a few weeks ago the airport was advising people to arrive early at the airport as...
I don't really see the removal of the air-rail link as a good thing, it seems like more messing with stuff that has worked fine for a long time. I really hope this isn't something that they are putting forward as a serious solution to the problem inside the airport's 4 walls.
The main bit of...
As I see it the lack of escalators has got to make it more difficult for passengers to get between the 2 floors, particularly if they aren't trying to join the queue for departures, even the temporary structure had steps and many people were using them rather than wait for the lifts.
Honestly...
