    Route Development & Rumours

They had a handling contract with Swissport at LBA. Not all visits went to Multiflight as the rugby charters didn’t use or pay extra for the FBO. Whether the new contract is simply a renewal or something new, who knows. But there was definitely a contract in place.

    Route Development & Rumours

If you were hoping for lots more and based aircraft, I don't think that was ever on the cards. At least not for S25. I'd be very surprised if LM didn't have a contract before at LBA given the amount of charter flying (not all of which was through Multiflight) and use of LBA as a diversion...

    Route Development & Rumours

Jet2 going into Luton is an opportunity created by new slots being declared - one new slot in each of the first morning departure hours and an increase in the annual passenger air transport movement cap. They look to have seen a one-time window opening and have moved swiftly to secure it...

    Route Development & Rumours

One is 2 x weekly, the other 4 x weekly. My gut feeling is that this is unlikely to be a route into Germany as they only have a base at Berlin nowadays. Hamburg was previously a base but closed.

They operate three in winter. There will be three next summer of which one is Belfast. Have to wait and see on the others.

Am led to believe Aurigny will be Wednesday and Saturday operation next year. For easyJet, it will be three routes including BFS. Not a base, before anyone gets over excited. The speculation on that front does involve an airport at the top of a hill, but it’s not LBA.

    Route Development & Rumours

I agree. If they were going to ditch LBA-GCI, I think they would have said so. You wouldn't plan to have two lots of bad news (this week, we're dropping LPL, NQY and EMA, next week we're dropping LBA) - you'd get all of the bad news out in one go, to avoid the public perception that this is...

    Route Development & Rumours

They have not said LBA is axed, despite making a clear statement only yesterday about other routes being cut (EMA, NQY and LPL) and that others (EXT and STN) are under review. More likely that as they have no flights currently on sale within the system range, LBA is temporarily not visible -...

    Leeds Bradford - General Thread

I believe there is something fairly imminent with easyJet for S25. It is not a base, but apparently some meaningful growth. Should know more in the next week or so.

    easyJet

They also ran some W patterns through Southend (FAO-SEN-AMS) and have some through Southampton this winter (AMS-SOU-ALC). Mostly this achieves mixing long rotations with short ones to drive up utilisation - the FAO aircraft and crew wouldn't have enough time to do a third Faro-UK/German/Swiss...

    easyJet

easyJet is closing its Venice base (and Toulouse also) at the end of Winter 24/25. The aircraft are being re-distributed to Milan, Lyon and Nantes so all three of those airports will have extra easyJet capacity in S25. LBA will be some years away from a base, if even that is on the cards...

    easyJet

Barcelona, Berlin and Milan Malpensa would all be logical adds - and are all easyJet bases. [Palma, Alicante, Malaga and Faro are all bases too...] I'm led to believe that there is definitely something afoot, and if Paris is going as well as suggested here, that can only be helpful to...

It does, and I've left enough clues :)

    Route Development & Rumours

The challenge here will be the late evening arrival back into LHR at 2230. That is - no doubt - why the slots also aren't really working on the route on which they're being flown today.

    Route Development & Rumours

So if this is a "short notice opportunity" then the schedules are very unlikely to have an LBA nightstop. If it's a simple case of moving capacity from one route which is doing exceptionally badly across to LBA-LHR then the 2 x daily schedule won't be wildly different to last time's.

    Route Development & Rumours

You can't viably operate an Embraer 190 into Heathrow. It's quite a noisy little thing and is charged as a "Super High" aircraft at £3,325 per landing AND per take-off at Heathrow. With 106 seats, you have a cost of £31.37 per passenger at 100% load factor just to pay the noise charge at...

    TUI Airways

LBA and Aberdeen are the only two airports without a base with any recognisable frequency. Aberdeen was a base until last year although the based aircraft spent most of its time on W patterns to Glasgow, so they've moved it to become a Glasgow-based aircraft instead which now Ws to Aberdeen...

    Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Yes, but the problem is that Manchester thinks Gatwick is on steroids and should have half of what Gatwick is getting. It's an iterative process depending on where you live. I am sure someone in Humberside thinks half of LBA's TUI and Wizz Air programme should be there.

Just in case anyone is looking, the AAIB report for the G-AOJF low-vis take-off incident in 1978 is indeed still on line: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5422f87e40f0b6134600073f/2-1979_G-AOJF.pdf

I'm not sure how accurate some of the stuff on that dried fruit forum is! The British Airtours TriStar Captain on that particular day was a BA chap on secondment, and definitely not Mexican. Interestingly of the crew who came to pick it up when BBAI had been repaired and was ready to go...
