    Random Stuff!

Even though there's a considerable number of people who commute from South Wales (esp. Newport area) into Bristol for work, I don't think this whole thing is really a good fit, and it won't be able to compete with the whole 'Northern powerhouse' thing anyway. Westminster doesn't care about...

£14 a month it seems, but it's a fair point of course.

or they can get off at the SS Great Britain stop in front of the Spike Island arts centre and walk ~3-4 minutes ~400 yards (<0.3 miles) to the SS Great Britain Landing ferry stop and take the ferry to Hannover Quay from which it's at most a few more minutes to the various Anchor Rd office...

    Random Stuff!

To be seen. I suspect there will be a fairly strong network effect (*). The initial outlay may have been substantial, but adding more routes going forward will be considerably cheaper, e.g. to keep a high frequency on the core routes but cover a wider area in the outer zones. We won't have to...

    Road, Rail & Access Issues

I could swear I've seen statements (by First or metrobus or so) that the height thing is nonsense, but I don't have a source for that at hand right now. It may only have been in reference to reasons why the route is not up and running yet though. I believe the rumours started because/when...

    Random Stuff!

Apologies if I phrased that badly. If you look at the article I linked it says so planning permission has already been granted. My impression is that in general on the big sites it's not really been the council that's holding things up, but developers or maybe lack of financing. For example...

    Random Stuff!

Not sure if it's really problematic. Engine Shed 2 has detailed planning permission already. I think the council have authorisation to go ahead with a compulsory purchase for the missing parts of the island if needed, but I might be making this up. I'm also sure I've seen fairly detailed plans...

    Bristol Airport - General Thread

Yes, you get 2 hours of free wifi if you give them an e-mail address (not sure if they verify it, don't think they do).

    Random Stuff!

Not sure if the paths would really be a problem. I believe the fast trains to London will go via Parkway, not Bath. In any case I'm sure the engineers will figure something out.

I assumed Östersund was mostly for skiing.

    Random Stuff!

Good riddance to the delapidated sorting office building, can't wait to see it gone! The more interesting question for me is what's happening with the Temple Meads redevelopment master plan? Esp. the more ambitious bits like a new entrance on the sorting office side, and opening up the tunnels...

    Fly BMI

Bit surprised this got past the trademark lawyers ("flybe" vs. "flybe-mi"). At least the new booking engine works again with Firefox (web browser).

    Random Stuff!

I was always a bit sceptical about that one, seeing how close it is to Temple Meads and considering what happened to The Eye. I was told it wouldn't be a problem because it's not directly within the line of sight towards the station and station approach. Not sure the new revision is much better...

    Infrastructure, Construction & Developments

Link doesn't work for me unfortunately. NS use the same horribly system BCC use for planning where the download links are apparently not permanent and/or tied to the user/machine. Typing 18/P/3502/EA2 into the search box should find it though.

    Random Stuff!

I find it difficult to form an opinion about who's at fault here without knowing all the details of the agreement with the subcontractors/builders. I imagine there will have been a test specification and acceptance criteria. Maybe only tests with one type of bus model were agreed. Possibly to...

    Bristol Airport Parking

I thought that restriction was for the extension of the car park on the south side, so that it's only used during peak time and otherwise punters are forced into the MSCP.

    Infrastructure, Construction & Developments

My understanding is that there is a funding shortfall and one possible source to make up that shortfall didn't pan out, but there may still be hope to obtain funding to bridge the gap from elsewhere.

    Random Stuff!

Never understood the point of that route anyway (Long Ashton to Hengrove), I think it would make more sense to extend m1 and m2 to the airport, and make them both use the SBL and then meet up at the A38/South Bristol Link.

Airport Master Plan for next 30 Years - Consultation

Just had a quick read through that. Main takeaway: immediate focus is on piecemeal expansion to 12mppa and then 15mppa. No "big plan" for the future for now (although that might be slightly unfair, see below). Seems like there will be some minor extensions to the main terminal on all sides, and...

Airport Master Plan for next 30 Years - Consultation

As TLY mentioned the other day, another round of consultations starts today. A 48-page PDF can be downloaded from https://consultation.bristolairport.co.uk/bristol-airport/your-airport-your-views-towards-2050/
