KARFA and EGCC_MAN, I'm sure you are aware that TM3 is the guy who recently had a long exchange of posts on the BHX forum essentially claiming why BHX should get various long haul routes rather than MAN. As then, he completely ignores the valid points made by others and just keeps re-iterating...
The Manchester jinx strikes again. The only main uk airport to have fog this morning (a few others did in the night) until about 10.30 and it coincides with airfield works that means many arrivals on 23R have to back-track. ATC are going to have their work cut out the next few weeks.
You'll notice that SPD Travels posted it because it had already leaked and was common knowledge around the airport. Hopefully, it will be confirmed as soon as possible now.
Good question, but I suspect some of us have now become immune from the frustration of AI applying for slots at MAN and then returning them. It's gone very quiet on that front.
As you probably know, Julian Carr was a senior member of the MAN Aviation Development team for several years and I...
With credit to SPD Travels on X:
"Early this morning (0425) Lufthansa A340-300 D-AIGP operating LH423 Boston-Frankfurt diverted to Manchester with a medical emergency. It’s since departed back to Frankfurt"
Quite a rare visitor these days.
And another fuel emergency from GLA.
I reckon that's 15 diverts for the day counting our own BFS returning. Hats off to the MAN team.
It's not as if there is a lot of spare apron space, more so with the TP and airfield work in progress and some stands unavailable.
What a contrast to the...
"Looking ahead to Q1 2024, the Press Office will be publishing new instalments in its Life at MAN series, in the form of Q&As with colleagues from various parts of the business and producing a round-up feature looking at new routes coming in 2024"
That could be quite interesting. How do you...
Thanks for your comments.
Was it S22 or S23 when slots were initially held for Air India, Thai, Royal Jordanian and I think Juneyao?
And for a time, some of those were showing on the advance MAN boards, presumably based on the slots.
At least RJ are starting, but it's understandable that some...
I think we've reached the stage with Air India when it would have been a bigger shock had they held the slots and announced a service from MAN for this summer. As I understand it, they are continuing to get more a/c, so let's see where they operate them that takes priority over MAN.
As for...
Yes, I read that too. Very encouraging as well as an additional based aircraft.
Just an update to my earlier post following comments by a very reliable source.
I'm told that Jet 2 were basing an extra a/c at MAN anyway before the replaced A330 with 2 x B737s, so that's an extra 2 stands...
On short haul, it's been mentioned that easyjet, ryanair and Jet 2 will all have an extra based aircraft at MAN for S24. Easyjet has been confirmed by the airline I believe, while for Jet 2, it's reported that 2 x B737s will replace an A330 - An extra frame but not many additional seats...
It's a heck of a difference in movements between Friday/Sat/Mon and Tues/Wed. I imagine the ski flights account for a fair proportion. Jet 2 for example had 48 movements on Saturday but only 6 & 8 on Tuesday / Wednesday.
I'm being more cautious at 29.0 - 29.5m which still requires an increase of between 3% and 4.8%.
S24 doesn't look all that exciting at present and that accounts for 30 -31 weeks of the year when passenger numbers are at their highest.
Some interesting choices already.
There are times when I despair about getting a route to Mumbai or Delhi so I'm not sure whether to put it top or bottom of the priority list!
No, with BHX having Delhi, I'll have BOM in the top 3.
In the US, at one time I would have said both LAX and SFO but...
Thanks again Scottie. It will be interesting to see if the momentum from the last quarter of 2023 when passengers figures were above those of 2019, and well ahead of 2022, continues into this year.
2020 saw us into Covid of course so it will be the comparison with 2019 again that will be...
It would be good Ian but requires an increase over 2023 of approx. 6.6% I reckon. From what we can glean so far, I'm not sure that's achievable. But it would be nice to be proved wrong.
I imagine the December passenger stats will be published soon. It will be interesting to see if December continued the growth trend of recent months compared to 2022, and importantly how we finished the full year. That in turn will show how far MAN still has to go to beat it's previous annual...
Hadn't realised as many as 37 diverted away. I guess if your glass is half full, there's relief as many landed as did. If half empty, MAN was extremely unlucky compared to other airports with that awful combination of gusty winds from the wrong direction,, frequent squally showers and wind...
