Up until now, each frequency has been spaced from the adjacent frequencies by 25kHz.
With newer equipment, it’s possible to divide that into three and space them by 8.33kHz, trebling the number of available frequencies. This allows the demand for new frequencies to be met, and enables a...
The new channels are the 8.33kHz equivalents of the out-going 25kHz frequencies. You might find that you can still pick them up using a 25kHz receiver on the old frequencies, but no guarantees.
VHF only, UHF not affected.
That should (hopefully) change when the 8.33kHz channels come in at the end of the month. At the same time, the ATIS message will change to sound less like calling Delivery is optional.
However, you’ll still hear an increased number of requests for clearances on Tower as aircraft which are...
Steady on, outrage or not, there’s no suggestion that Bradford is going from the name, just my thoughts on distancing the Airport from the Glasgow Prestwicks, Doncaster Sheffields, Durham Tees Valleys etc.
As I see it, the only time an appendage is needed is when there is more than one airport...
Hardly any airports have ‘international’ in their names these days. It reeks of a small airport that is trying too hard. Personally, I’d see the ‘Bradford’ dropped as well.
Not quite correct. The closure times are now fixed, anything that is running late after the closure time won’t be accommodated.

Pass. I suppose the exposed 60s brickwork was probably the only bit left of the original building that was visible. Perhaps the grey paint blends in better with the steels and greys of the newer facades on the rest of the building.
The painted-over window into the works area which had a little bit of the paint rubbed off has now sadly been boarded over, so it's not possible to see in now, unfortunately.
AIUI, the taxiway and runway requirements for handling an A380, that previously required other airports to widen taxiways etc, have been reduced to the extent that LBA now technically meets them.
Strengthening probably not an issue, it's all about how the weight is distributed over the ground...
Well, you got one of them. The LED clocks are still with us. The other item is the single width strip bay at the bottom of the photo. We brought that out of retirement to hold some of the wipe-clean strips we use to indicate equipment availability and various other things.
Not the strip holders. Some of those old ones are kicking around in our sim, but we have newer ones in the tower.
You're close, though...
The Metcom monitor is a modern LCD display these days, although it does use a version of the same software. Not what I was thinking of, though.
As for...
Well before my time, but I can see two bits of kit there that we're still using in the new Radar room. Any guesses?
Edit: it's not either of the staff. Or the window blinds, although they are still there...
There's a new app out for the iPad from NATS, the UK's en-route ATC agency today called 'Airspace Explorer', and its free! It's similar to Flight Radar 24 except that it uses actual radar data, not the inaccurate crowd-sourced ADS-B that FR24 and the others use. In addition, you can call up and...
Electronic strips weren't within the scope of this project, it was centred on replacing the Radar Data Processor - i.e. the radar displays. These are the large, widescreen displays you can see. In addition, a new electronic information display system was brought in - these are the smaller...
