Gentrification displaces existing communities. Bad. We need to get the balance right. The Manhatten approach disregards the poorer in favour of fat profit and speculative vacant homes. We never want to be associated with that...Nine Elms springs to mind. Yuk. Keep the towers and the residents to...
Having just come back from Iceland...via LGW.... More to Keflavik. If I was going to the US I would do so via KEF. So simple and plenty of destinations to choose from.
But, more flights to Iceland regardless. Amazing place.
Edit: and not a drop of litter anywhere. The locals know how to...
Numbers coming back but we are being outstripped by other airports. May change next year, but the steadier approach may be worth while on the longer term as routes are given time to settle and embed as BAU, before revival destinations and airlines come along.
Good work by all involved.
And...
The tower is not that stubby. One of the tallest, at the moment, in the city centre. Sits on lower ground than the Colmore Row tower so looks short. In fact it is taller.
I suppose the lights need to cover all possible approaches. One Eastside is going up at the moment which is closer to the...
Sorry for underplaying this yesterday, of course it is very serious, but the usual feeding frenzy and sensationalist headlines from the BBC and others of 'bankrupt Birmingham' (not even Birmingham City Council) really annoys me.
These are the statements people believe, rather than the detail...
This has been decades in the making. Very sad day for local government - furious faces galore. I will leave it at that, as local government is what I work in.
But read beyond the headlines: it means no new spending. It is not bankrupt. It just cannot balance the books so the section 151...
Great stuff, as always, Brum X. The Octagon webcam does not do it justice. Great to see these towers going up with good pace.
I found this the other day...

Not sure if we had mentioned...
We have to factor in that it is not just covid that has impacted, but the dreaded B word has also. Making it more difficult for passengers, as well as business to business drop off (for which B is an issue) reduces demand.
New markets and direct services is the growth point. And I 100% agree...
Flew onto Boston this morning. Mumbai to Birmingham to Boston reccie? Or just someone having fun? Looking at it's flight history, most likely business.
It was quite obvious at the time. If he had been the MP for Meriden and not Tatton, we would not have complained if he gave the Chinese the same "deal" to BHX ... Stinks but he was doing his job as a constituent MP albeit from a position as Chancellor which is a tut tut.
It is so sad but I would hate to speculate on who did this although the bull dozer should be easy to find and probably did not get too far away.
Planning permission is required to demolish a pub.
From government planning guidance:
Do I need to apply for planning permission to demolish a...
Looking again at the photo and Jenny's comment, if the NEC, Airport and environs had been planned with the very long term in mind - as all areas should - then the whole area between the railway, A45 and the current aprons would be within the airport and that reflected the needs of the NEC as...
