    Manchester Airport Transformation Programme

Another shot of the new pier courtesy of the excellent "CCGE29" on SSC. The size of the thing is so much bigger than I expected from the CGI. Should be plenty of circulatory space when it opens (I don't think this pier will have much larger than A330 sized aircraft using it).

    2018 predictions

I think Coathanger is spot on here. Most major US (also Canadian) destinations are served, with the (IMO major) caveats that: Many of them are seasonal, as we see with SFO, BOS, LAX and now to a greater extent ORD. Redressing this imbalance is crucial to ongoing viability. Many of them are thin...

    2018 predictions

I agree daily is more likely than any reduction, I cannot see MAN-SIN any lower than 5x weekly (even as a standalone). CX show what is achievable, and the A359 is the perfect aircraft for them - incredibly efficient on these 11-13hr sectors.

    2018 predictions

Picking up some of the points above, combined with some thoughts of my own: I cannot see Spicejet getting their ducks in a row to start by S18. Whether that leads to anything from them at a later date or flushes another Indian carrier out of the woodwork is an interesting question. On the Far...

I suppose the A332 at LGW rather puts a hole in the "MAN specific fleet" theory/rumour - in the short term at least. Perhaps 2019 and beyond will see more A332 and the A333's returning, but for now we probably should be pleased about the broad retention of capacity and frequency. Ps - I'm not...

Looks like two of the A333 will be based at LGW. Not sure where this leaves MAN, but I suppose one A332 can run SFO/BOS, and the second a mix of BGI/XXX with 2x B744 and perhaps an A333 covering the rest...

    CAA Provisional Statistics Update

Cheers Ian, a mixed bag there. Sometimes difficult to see the wood from the trees (don't know when seasons end competed to last year when winter schedules kick in) but Atlanta seems to have taken a kicking. From memory this is now 4x weekly from 6/7x weekly, but clearly getting hurt by SQ to...

    Saudia Airlines

It's great to see the ties between the Middle East and north of England grow, much of which is caused by these direct air routes. A pattern that hopefully repeats itself with other parts of the world in the future.

    Manchester Metropolitan Area

Gary Neville's revised scheme is back in for planning. It looks pretty good in renderland, and will essentially drag Spinningfields towards the civic part of the city centre. For scale, the tower is around 140m tall.

In terms of the latter I had seen an article about a short (4/5 story) MSCP on that site so think you are probably correct. In terms of the former, good to see it is out of the way of a potential straight line extension to the T2 eastern pier (to link with a potential new combined T1/3 building).

You'd be in a large minority of your view is that LGW surface access is more expensive that LHR (unless you are looking at 2/3 new runways at LGW!) The market trend is towards long haul low cost. That means airport cost being kept to a minimum, which means cheaper infrastructure. I think...

You generally come across as a bright guy, but certain points you made were obviously wrong. You staid "the scheme the government supports?". You are now trying to conflate (or don't know the difference between) government support (which is from the Secretary of State) with a vote by...

Yes, the government supports the LHR north west runway scheme. This is well known and widely reported and underpinns the current consultation. I find it hard to believe you didn't know this. As for the latter points, LHR asserted that the north west runway scheme was deliverable, in full, in...

I don't see DL jumping in, but they did in ATL last year so you may be right!

Very true - good point. Obviously UA offer business class to EWR, but not many. We think an equipment change is in the works but there is no concrete evidence of this.

Apologies, I might not have been as clear as I could be. The updated economic case has led to the consultation being reopened, the consultation has had no impact on the economic case. Quite simply, no matter how many airlines want to fly from LHR, it is economically better for the U.K. to...

I suppose given the demand and absence of AA this feels logical.

The headline point is that LHR have obtained government support for a proposal they said was deliverable. They are now seeking to move the goalposts and tacitly admit the scheme the government support is not deliverable. The airport commission estimated £800,000. This seems too low, but...

The airlines will pass on the cost (en masse) to passengers. If you are happy to pay, fair enough.
