Interesting that it seems to be the passengers figures to Spain which have seen some of the larger drops during September (with a few exceptions), whilst some of the core year-round routes such as Amsterdam, Heathrow and Belfast appear to be going from strength to strength. Was not long ago...
Though curiously, Newcastle, Aberdeen and Belfast, which also have BA service to LHR at higher frequency than LBA does, do not appear on the Vueling website.
The CPH route has for quite some time been available for under £100 return for a long weekend for a number of dates in the coming months, so hearing of fares of £500+ sounds like they may be being sold as fully flexible fares, which in turn may suggest SAS are waiting to see how things go over...
Although overall numbers are slightly down, I'm finding a good deal of encouragement when looking at the key year-round routes, which are showing very healthy increases:
Heathrow (up 18%)
Amsterdam (up 20%)
Belfast City (up 8%)
Even Dublin (down 4%) will hopefully be boosted once EI arrive...
Whilst there's little doubt there will still be leakage of passengers on the route, I think the numbers carried from LBA now seem respectable when balanced up with the number of flights we have available and what are considered by many as sub-optimum departure times. How many flights per day do...
At last! Plenty of potential for this service, particularly with the possibility of connections in DUB onto EI's North American services and the attraction of US Immigration pre-clearance in Ireland.
I don't think there will be too much issue with EI/Stobart competing for passengers to Dublin...
Think my first flight was LBA-PMI on a Britannia B737-200 around 1978, though I'm going off what I remember my parents telling me. I recall them telling me of the very steep climb immediately after take-off, which seems likely when we only had a 5400ft runway at LBA!
I remember visiting LBA one...
Was on yesterday's BA1341, very busy flight, would say well over 100 and seemed to be very few empty seats. Flew back today on lunchtime 1342, much quieter with maybe 50-60 on board.
Booked on BA to LHR in about a week's time for a business forum I'm attending in Windsor, returning the next day. Times work perfectly for when I need to be there and was cheaper (and much less hassle) than train with all the changes departing from my local station and in London that would have...
A handful of LBA passenger stats for April have been issued (most are still to be published). One of those available shows the LHR route handling 11673 passengers for the month (a 20% increase on April 2013). Is this a record month for BA on the route?
Incidentally, happened to be looking back...
I feel it's almost an admission of guilt when a restructuring airline in a financially fragile state introduces a new corporate image. It somehow seems to be an acknowledgement that many of its customers have experienced a below par service in the past and it now wishes to say "Sorry about that...
Noticed quite a bit of promotional stuff around LBA for the new SAS service. Even the landside Travelex desk has a notice on the counter for a promotional rate on Danish Krona! Fingers crossed for it becoming a success, booked on twice in the coming months.
Seems encouraging, considering that the first flight is essentially 'one way traffic' as nobody on it is returning from a service on an earlier date.
Will be interesting to see how the passenger numbers progress over the next couple of weeks.
Just noticed on Flightradar 24 that G-ZBAA has positioned out a short time ago from LBA to Humberside. Thought this seemed bit unusual given Monarch don't normally operate out of HUY. Looking at HUY's website it's due to depart there at 21:00 this evening arriving back at HUY again at 00.10...
I for one will welcome Monarch adding new slimmer seats, even more so if they are the type which don't recline. I used to think the gripes about poor legroom on Monarch were perhaps exaggerated and harked back to the days when they were more charter orientated. That was until I sampled it for...
