Whilst I take you general point, I’m not sure I’d advocate for the Chinese way of “getting things done” 😂
There are some really good European models though. Not least Spain. I was amazed how progressive their rail infrastructure was when using it a couple of years ago. I think Leeds should...
Funding of the Parkway would dramatically improve my day-to-day life so I am desperate to see it finally happen.
However, as Len says above, there are several other projects which require substantial funding and the station will have to compete with those in terms of providing value for public...
It seems I may be the only person who welcomes such a large investment in our region.
The North of England, and Yorkshire in particular, have been ignored and deprived of funding for the last 15+ years so I see this news as nothing but positive. Certainly a change in government policy since...
I think some of the “black hole” money finds it way into the occasional account held by public officials.
I remember back in the 80/90s and it was discovered that the 4/5 largest contractors used to meet up before bidding for Gov work and agree a generally inflated cost and then which one’s...
I presume a contract can be agreed with a clause allowing inflation to be considered as a factor over the agreed length of the project? It doesn’t seem particularly complicated to me.
There’s too much “convenient” flexibility written and agreed into these deals. The people calling the shots...
There is a long standing problem in the UK with projects which require public funding.
Nearly every one in recent years has been over budget and overdue.
I have no idea why contractors are not held firmly to their quotes and breaks inserted which forces them offsite should they start asking for...
I couldn’t access the full article, just the above clip.
However, my understanding is that it is (or was) being reviewed in light affordability as the council were expecting a large contribution under the last Government (from memory some kind of second round of funding) which didn’t...
The best I could do:
David Skaith, mayor of York and North Yorkshire, lent his support to the scheme. The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire has reiterated his support for a £42 million plan to build a rail station on the Harrogate line that would connect with Leeds Bradford Airport despite it...
I haven’t applied. When is it?
I have doubts as to the importance of puff-piece meetings like that to be honest.
They tend to elicit more heat than light. People are polarised on both sides and nobody changes their minds. I support the airport, but not to the extent that I can’t be critical...
I don’t think there’s anything particularly new here, but always good to get a more recent overview of the airport.

I genuinely don’t know. It seems very poorly thought out. The airport was responding to some of the criticisms on Tripadvisor but seems to have given up.
FWIW, my mate said the old lounges were very good although they’d started to become quite busy. Mind you, he’s a bit of a snob 😁
Regardless...
Met a mate for a pint yesterday and he was telling me about his experience in The Avro Lounge. I don’t use the lounges myself being a pleb, but he always uses them and he travels a lot.
To say he was scathing about it would be an understatement. I must have looked incredulous because he told me...
But it’s possible, yes? These things are simply commercial decisions, that’s all.
I posted a fact, not an opinion.
I like to remain objective on these issues.
I’m a supporter of LBA (and a worker at LBA many moons ago) but everyone needs a truth telling critical friend every now and again.
It’s...
