I am, and I have - really interesting and thanks!
Memories of Sunday afternoon chips from the traffic lights (pre Murgatroyds days) and watching the exotic charters!
Is this something you are able to share?
I was a huge football fan and closeted plane nerd back then (abuse from my friends lol!), and made the regrettable choice to watch the football - not thinking about the influx to LBA that day.
I have seen some footage on YouTube, which included the...
And I think those restrictions strengthen the argument that we probably need a link (with codeshare) to an alternative such as Paris, Frankfurt or wherever.
I think competition into Amsterdam is likely to be limited or restricted for some time
The runways at the two airports may be similar in length but I don’t think LBA has the same available landing distance, which for a heavy cargo aircraft obviously impacts capabilities.
Stand to be corrected if my thoughts are wrong obviously
The chat about point to point was for similar reasons.
There was a lack of viability as you could not travel down ahead of a standard working day, whereas you could by the alternative of trains
Likewise, as Heather pointed out - the late(r) departure created risk when trying to connect at...
They’ve also got the aircraft maintenance facility.
To be fair to Teesside they’ve got far more space to play with I think (given lack of based aircraft compared to LBA.
They do seem to have a few strings to their bow to be fair, but agree with White Heather - it needs to become self sustained...
The new cargo facility was opened a few months ago at Teesside.
Not huge but it is cargo dedicated unlike anything at LBA

With BA operating the route as well, passengers will have the flexibility to mix and match operators.
This flexibility will support increased demand - e.g fly out with BA but the FlyBe may be a better connection on the return or vice versa.
At LBA there was the limitation to using only FlyBe -...
That’s a bold statement!
I would wager that more people from South Yorkshire use LBA than they do Doncaster.
Remember Doncaster’s numbers also include people from West Yorkshire and other surrounding areas also
This was my initial thought. LBA might (or might not) have all the equipment to handle, but would assume there would be some need to speculate at least.
Manchester will have all the equipment and infrastructure to handle a flight at the drop of a hat, no risk for them.
Appreciate WH what you say...
Agree with this. 99% agree.
With the possible exception of Belfast - but still difficult (suicidal?) to turn away operators.
Point being I’m not entirely convinced they are too bothered re demand / saturation numbers if an airline wants to bring in custom
