Bit of a delay publishing videos from "RAF Elmdon" week a couple of weeks ago as I needed to check them with Brize Norton. This is the Atlas ZM413 which was semi-based at BHX, landing and stopping engines.
Obviously it was Qatar's big day yesterday, but (deliberately?) their 788 was overshadowed for onlookers by Saudia's second service arrival, brightly coloured HZ-ARB.
The weekends 'inaugural' action seen from north, south and east of the airfield.
As expected, Sheldon Park wasn't quite as packed as for the original A380 but still a good turnout.
Yes it's in flight so really is A6-EUY back again. If there's a puff of tyre smoke when it lands the local press will have another field day with blazing infernos ;)
With the big day tomorrow Emirates-wise, it'll be interesting to see how the folk of the West Midlands react to the return of the 'elephant' compared to its inaugural flight by A6-EOR in 2016. There was 'standing room only' in Sheldon Park and the multi-storey car park, with plenty also in the...
I seem to remember Air Algerie Caravelles in the 60's.
I have a lovely photo of the landing on the inaugural flight which I purchased from the Evening Mail as a keen little'un. I wanted to show it on this thread a few weeks back but the current copyright holders said I would have to pay them to...

Also, the current A45/M42 junction has a reputation for being dangerous for drugs dealers who take the junction at high speed...
Having the engines at the back I think brings out the elegance of the wing/body combination well. For me another beauty is the 727, here at BHX 5 years back (has JT8D engines whose original design dates to 1963) .
Am I correct that Ryan Kirkpatrick is a member of this forum?

Talking of engine noise, this video is only 10 years old but the airport certainly new it had been visited, VC10 with RR Conways in this case. Even the car alarms in the factory parking by Sheldon Park couldn't withstand the might! Gary
As they are based on the core of the noisy Rolls Royce Spey I was interested in getting close to the F100 landing/takeoff to hear how those old Tay engines sounded.
Maybe this thread should be called something like "Airport rankings for delays" rather than a statement which may be true now but might not be in years to come
