I would say the writing has been on the wall for a while and they’ve certainly scaled back operations slowly since Covid.
Will they be back in the summer? Possibly, but I’m sure they’ll be looking for a cash incentive. If that were the case a return of BCN flights should be a priority. Of...
I hope not. But you’re likely right about them needing a financial incentive to run the EDI-CWL. It then begs the question of if it’s a wise choice if they are in financial trouble.
Rumours are floating around (posted by SeanM) that Loganair may be closing their base at SOU. Flights to Manchester look to be ceasing at the end of August. It does make you wonder if this could be an opening on getting flights to EDI back at Cardiff.
There’s a lot of chat online about Vueling dropping Alicante (and Malaga) at least for the winter. I’ve seen for a week that both routes are off sale after October, but it doesn’t seem like existing bookings have been cancelled. I’m curious what they’re actually doing and whether they have...
Reports by Sean M on X that West Jet are reducing their Glasgow route to 3 weekly in summer 2027. Also confirmed (in the comments) that CWL is staying at 4 weekly (at the moment)
Edit: I know it’s a post about Glasgow, but thought it’s relevant given this route launched at the same time as Cardiff.
It could be that the spend per passenger is higher than traditional sun routes. E.g additional luggage and a larger markup on accommodation and other activities.
On paper the route didn’t do well. I’d put that down to price, frequency and timings. If we had something that replicated the Belfast route (price & frequency) it would probably do well.
They must have their reasons. I can only think because it took them the best part of 2 years to fill the 787 it didn’t seem worth the risk to continue or increase flights.
A shame really as long haul options from the south west is really limited.
I’ve always thought it’s crazy how close the station is to the airport, yet not quite close enough to be considered “at the airport”. I agree with what others have said, it needs to be every 30 mins in both directions with the bus link. Not only for the airport link, but to service all the...
That’s a good idea, although the airport would likely need to subcontract the bus and potentially run at a loss based on the current number of flights. Pre-booking online could be made cheaper so that they know the expected numbers.
Again I think the issue at the moment is you might have a...
I think that would certainly help. It’s whether the line between Cardiff and Barry could accommodate an extra service every hour.
I agree, TUI passengers are more likely to bring larger suitcases and drive/get a taxi. If CWL were to win back the 6am KLM flight and potentially have a low cost...
Thinking about public transport links to the airport, as it currently stands it’s not attractive enough.
There’s a few options in my opinion, some more pie in the sky than others.
Easiest option - run a frequent direct bus from Barry Docks station to the airport. With trains already every 20...
