Bit grotty for you all up there today. Sun looks to be coming out thankfully.

    Aviation Nostalgia Thread

I still wonder what took LBA so long to adopt nose-in parking; it wasn't until 1997 that this occurred, whereas the likes of East Midlands and Newcastle had gone down that route years previously. I accept there may have been an issue with stands 1-6 being close to the runway protected strip but...

    Aviation Nostalgia Thread

The longest of the Constellation types is 116 feet and the DC6B comes in at 105 feet. The BAC 1-11 - 107 feet and the DC9 - 119 feet. Looks like it's the DC9, which would mainly have been British Midland aircraft, with occasionals from Martinair and Aviaco. The Transavia Caravelles should too...

    Aviation Nostalgia Thread

A question for our older members. Back in the 1970s and 80s when we only had six self-manouevering stands at the airport, what is the largest or longest aircraft you remember seeing parking, simply by following the markings and without a marshaller? For me, it would be the DC9-30 or...

Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

I think (my personal opinion) is that it was only a matter of time before Jet2 once again farmed out LBA deicing to a third party. Out of more than a dozen bases, LBA was something of an anomaly in this regard. At any given time, the need to deice aeroplanes could take up to six key personnel...

    Runways, Aprons and Taxiways

I'm fairly sure the current RW14 localiser is more or less level with the physical concrete of the SE end of the runway so replacing that with a modern antenna may be fairly straightforward. I'm not sure about the other end but I do remember watching an Aviogenex 737 clear it by only a few feet...

A new airport.... South Yorkshire Airport City?

That overview by Mr Chadwick is a study in how to use lots of big words, buzz words and b******t to say virtually nothing. Does anyone fall for it?

    Aircraft Flying Overhead [OTT]

I thought I heard something. I just assumed it was a small RAF trainer buzzing overhead.

    Runways, Aprons and Taxiways

The part of Alpha between Bravo and Alpha 1 is closed every winter as the movement rate is lower. At the least, this reduces wear and tear and also allows for maintenance.

    Route Development & Rumours

I'm quite out of touch with airport developments just now, however, the Watchman radar is coming up to 36 years old so age and parts availability will soon become concerns if they aren't already. The Watchman has outlived its ACR430 predecessor by at least a decade and it has been a solid...

Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Wet runways don't help when landing in poor visibility with even a slight tailwind. That might have been a factor today.

    Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Given Vince Hodder's considerable achievements at Leeds Bradford, it's not inconceivable that he is one reason for AENA's purchase. A condition of sale, so to speak.

Good old GDFO strikes again. I can't imagine why this one wasn't sent to Newquay for Aurigny/Skybus duties!

Spotting Movements Log & Heads Up

The type rating is the same for the 737-300 right up to the -900. I'm not sure but I expect a short differences course is required for full pilot flexibility across the fleets. Many Jet2 737 pilots fly both the -300 and -800.
