Noticed the divided glass walkway on the left there after the new duty free - is that a corridor coming from Euro hub check in? I read they have opened two security lanes somewhere in eurohub so I guess this must be from there?

Ah yes I see the proposal now. Some of the best views of the apron were from the windows at that spot. Beers better be good!

Pier B is looking better opened up with the old wall beyond gates 56/57 removed. However they have just put up a new wall directly in front of 56/57, so in effect moved the old wall forwards... But the signage is a lot better for 56/57 now as it was always poor before. The old kids play area...

Anyone have any pictures or references for the layout of the south arrivals / immigration (i.e Eurohub) ? Haven't been though that side in years and can't picture it. Seems like Jet2 pax will be getting bused to north arrivals for a while then...

Is the terminal infill extension still going ahead? Perhaps it is the start of that although I doubt it. A side note is that twice in the last 6 months I've arrived and the usual CTA corridor has been closed. Instead we were bussed around to the end of the short pier and up the stairs through...

Does anyone know what work is being done to gates 56/57 and beyond? It's sealed off inside for work with all departures from 54 down. Stands 57/58 out of action as a result.

Noticed recently how run down Eurohub looks these days with the disused jetbridges. I know it's been that way for yonks now, but it took me having a good look over at the new "shed" they've put in front of stands 8L/C/R (now 6/7/8 i think?) to really notice how 3rd world it looks. Any plans to...

Birmingham: Airport Security, Immigration & Border Control

Travelled through at 14.00 today - it was busy with queues back to the lifts. I didn't see downstairs but assume not bad. Probably 20-30 mins max although i tried out fast track and was through in just a few minutes. I think 8 scanners were in use. I'd say they're making good revenue from fast...

The absuridty of forcing people off the monorail to go down in the lift and queue 3 hours to get up in it again... heads need to roll

Back on the topic of the infrastructure itself, who'd have guessed the lifts would be a huge mistake... Will be trying the new area out in a week or two. Arriving by train will I be forced down the stairs on the scaffolding and up through the lifts? Had to do that a few times while the work...

    Nostalgia at BHX

At the time I think there was a plan to put Eurohub south of the existing small pier where the grass is on the right of that picture (the domestic pier?). That's according to this 1993 paper. In the end we know the smaller pier was replaced entirely by Eurohub. Option B was I think to the...

    Nostalgia at BHX

Can anyone remember the security arrangements pre-2010 and the "One Terminal" development? I think they infilled the double height landside Millennium Link to create the new central passenger search area (above what is Costa/Arrivals today). You can see it in the pictures here. I also can't...

I've used BHX a dozen or so times in 2023 and airside is slowly improving with the new outlets: Smiths, Starbucks, Giraffe etc. It's still showing its age though with minimal seating and virtually no charging facilities. The top end of the Pier near gate 56/57 for EI/FR is especially drab...

"In addition four new 50-person lifts are being installed at the front of the terminal, to replace existing escalators, which the airport says will free up space on both floors." As I guessed, it seems like plans are to replace the escalators with four lifts. That's going to be a terrible...

Birmingham: Airport Infrastructure, Construction & Developments

I was wondering the same thing. I don't remember seeing that staircase recently but I'm guessing it is still there and I just didn't notice. The problem is the downstairs connection is such a cramped area, lots of pillars in the way, having to jostle through the crowds at arrivals. It's really...

Will the new security area be upstairs where Burger King and Frankie & Bennies, used to be? That's what it looks like based on the renders and announcements I've seen. I've travelled through a few times in the last couple of months and noticed that area is all closed, with temporary new walls...

    TUI Airways

I'm on one of those flights in a few weeks, will have to see what the load is like. Are they pulling the cruises altogether or just the flights?

    Monarch Airlines

My understanding is the Thomas Cook Group is just selling off the airline division. The IT company will just exist without their own in house airline.

Last I heard AirBerlin were begging EZ to buy them. And there were mentions of EZ buying ZB. Now ZB want to buy AirBerlin... Well, I guess that's one way of doing it. Get ZB to buy AirBerlin, then EZ can gobble up ZB

    Birmingham: Route Development & Rumours

Interesting, as this is the third case I've heard about (this week alone) of pilots coming back from EK 777s to fly 73s in the UK.
