At just twice weekly and with all the competition on the route these Jet2 flights to Lisbon will probably be mostly filled by the holiday business rather than competing directly with Ryanair etc.
Any ideas when we might expect to hear an announcement from Ryanair or Easyjet if they do add any flights for the summer? I seem to recall Easyjet waited very late this year.
As well as adding Mykonos, they seem to have increased peak summer frequencies to Corfu (up to 7 weekly), Heraklion (8) and Rhodes (9). Lots of capacity to Greece. I still don't think they've filled schedules for 4 additional aircraft yet though.
They do need something to do with some of these...
Thinking about this a bit more.. Jet2 cannot use 23 daily slot pairs. It's impossible. For flights to their usual holiday destinations that'd need 11 or 12 aircraft, which isn't going to happen. Even if they could use all the slots, Thomas Cook going bust surely proved there isn't any money to...
Seems a lot of slots for Jet2, especially considering they're only in the market to replace Thomas Cook short haul routes. It seems unlikely they'll actually be able to use that many slots next summer, which raises the question of why pay for them?
A question about this whole sale process...
Ryanair are closing their base in Hamburg. That's the fourth German route they've dropped from Manchester in quick succession, following Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Nuremberg.
The airline was profitable from selling most of its seats to the holiday business for a price that division couldn't make money on. If someone had bought the airline, would it still be operating after the rest of Thomas Cook went under, leaving it flying empty planes?
Like Jet2, Tui are going for Thomas Cook's main Turkish destinations - Antalya and Dalaman both showing 14 weekly flights next summer. Hurghada up to 5 weekly, plus probably quite a few places with the odd additional flight.
So we've seen now the reactions of the package holiday operators to...

TUI are apparently interested. Given the need to secure hotels and their 737 Max issue it might not be quick though. Thomas Cook would probably have done it if they were still around.
I've included the other routes - Prague actually has a reduction to 2 weekly for the summer holidays. As far as I'm aware Jet2 don't serve Sofia? There are reports online of them also adding Mytilene next summer, but no evidence on Jet2's own website.

It mentions four aircraft, but the additions to the timetable I think add up to somewhere in the region of 30 extra weekly departures in August, which would usually be two aircraft if they...
Jet2 have put a new route to Skiathos on sale for next summer, twice weekly. Also other additional flights mostly to Spain and Turkey. I think it amounts to about two extra aircraft.
