I believe the take of run of a 737 max 8 is around 8,300 feet mark at MTOW. Realistically at Cardif they are looking at around 6,500 feet so it could make sense they need to restrict it especially as during the summer they might be operating on some hotter days.
Cardiff is a high corrosion airfield due to its location so according to somebody I know who works there TUI have decided not to base new aircraft there.
It is linked to the import of goods to meet security standards from certain non European countries. Might be to support operations from European or another operators from countries that don’t meet UK import requirements meaning they need to be screened on arrival.
With the widening of the taxi turn offs it seems the airport has been working closely with them to make operations out of Cardiff easier. If this does happen I guess they have come up with a better parking plan as taking up all of the six pack doesn’t seem like a very good long term solution.
They do it for the Cork route from Bristol flying Dublin - Bristol - Cork - Bristol - Dublin. I guess the bigger ask is getting them to move into a new market away from Ireland.
Don’t forget the airfield is closed overnight at the moment due to the runway work. It might not have been able to take flights or airlines might want 24 hour ops for getting the aircraft back out of the diversion airports
No reductions has to be taken as a positive. Also worth noting at an airline level TUI are getting stung by late deliveries from Boeing for 737-8’s and still no certification of 737-10 it has to be hard to plan any expansion at any bases.
No the charge to cross the bridge is now gone. Depending on how close the the M4 you live in Cardiff it is possible to get to Bristol airport in 50 to 60 mins but that is dependent on no traffic. Sadly the M4 is often backed up so it’s easy for the journey to take up 2 and a half hours...
