Whilst I totally get that once the media get their teeth into a story they keep going back to it I don't entirely subscribe to the "fake news" narrative here. I believe people were actually queueng for 3 hrs, outside the terminal etc as described.
I also feel the airport PRs are going to say...
It seems like BHX is really busy but only at peak holiday times.
I know a lot of people look at the peak annual numbers and these holiday flights seem to be easy to attract to the airport but personally I'd like to see more choice in terms of destinations, in particular long haul.
In terms of...
Given the queues that have become the norm at peak times it seems that the airport is maxed out for package holiday flights which means operators can charge a premium for flights out of Birmingham.
Isn't this the situation with UK airport capacity now though. There probably isn't much scope for charter flights into LHR, even though it's best located for Wembley.
I imagine these flights are spread out across a number of London airports but BHX, being 2 - 3 hrs from Wembley by coach is...
Thanks for posting. Great memories of the old observation room with binoculars and radio.
If you put aside some of the fashion it looks like a vision of the airport from the future and not the past.
Having read some of the posts and articles surrounding the issue it appears to me that it is now possible to to have your bags scanned without taking out laptop / liquids.
I understand the airport wants to allow pax to carry higher volumes of liquids through security from 1 June.
Why are no...
So these delays (which from the newspapers were 24th & 26th of April) are nothing to do with any particular busy period, they are just as it says, the new normal until the terminal is ready?
Serious question. Is the 3 hour queue only on Mondays or is it likely to be every day over Easter? I have to travel to the Channel Islands and I'm not prepared to stand in a 3 hour queue for a flight that lasts less than an hour.
Otherwise I have an EMA service but it's less frequent.
I only really want to pay the £20 if I need to fast track though, sometimes the airport genuinely is empty.
I flew Emirates a month ago on a Saturday night and I had fastrack included on my ticket, the airport was completely dead.
The fastrack lane was closed anyway, there was just one lane...
As per the Oxford Dictionary online:
"the new normal"
"a previously unfamiliar or atypical situation that has become standard, usual, or expected."
To me having read the articles it seems it is at least 2 hours to get through security and probably more.
If this is merely the line in a...
An airport spokesperson said:
“We saw a usual busy Monday morning at Birmingham airport with customers queuing downstairs, which is the new normal."

And in the article from...
It's not being busy on Mondays that is abnormal, it's having to queue 3 hours outside of the terminal and still miss your flight.
Is a typical Tuesday any different?
Also I have a car so I can travel from a number of different airports and probably will if the airport has no ambition to...
I read a similar article in the Independent;
https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/stansted-birmingham-airport-delays-power-security-b2536622.html
This claims 15% of bags need re-scanning, iand each one adds 10 minutes to the process. Is this a normal percentage or is it driven...
Out of all of the airports I've been thorugh in the UK of late BHX seems one of the most difficult and time consuming to clear security.
One of the reasons (but not the only one) I put this down to is often insisting on checking and rescanning when no "prohibited" items are in the luggage...
Your checkin airline in HKG will check you have an onbound ticket to a 3rd country airport and if you do you can board. Chinese immigration will do the same check when you arrive.
There is no check as to when you left last time or how long you were out of the country.
You can use the TWOV...
That's not how it works.
Once you have transited out it starts again. There is no such restriction than stops you from transiting again on another 144hr TWOV.
