WhiteHeather has it about right. The yields were way below those required to sustain the operation, and all that the switch from E195 to E175 did was to reduce the number of empty seats flying around. One of the previous Flybe's management's bad decisions was to go into this in the first...

Flybe weren't doing OK at DSA. They absolutely weren't.

    Route Development & Rumours

Newquay is gone - finishing at the end of the summer, will not be operated this winter and the strong signals are that it will not be in the plan in Summer 2020 either. With the longevity of the DUS base also in question, that's also at high risk.

    Route Development & Rumours

Glasgow-Leeds stopped because it wasn't making any money. Airlines don't normally withdraw from routes which are profitable. It just happened that the aircraft did get moved to Manchester, but it has since also been withdrawn from there. If you were Loganair and going into a battle with...

BHD will likely be safe as it should be making decent money. I'd fear for DUS and NQY.

That'll be fun on a wet runway day at Southampton.

    Brussels Airlines

There is another dimension which may be betraying confidences to mention, but I do not think that relations between BRS and Loganair are perhaps as good as those at NCL, for example.

    Brussels Airlines

From what I understand, it's more a question that Loganair don't want to touch LH as they saw very closely the number of limitations that a working relationship with Lufthansa imposed on flybmi. It apparently added to operating costs and really restricted operating flexibility in many ways and...

    Eastern Airways

Yes, they did. They had performance limitations at SOU even then and the rules have become more stringent with the addition of extra safety-based stopping margins on landing and rejected take-offs which make those performance issues even more limiting today.

    Eastern Airways

Embraer 145 runway performance at SOU will almost certainly make any change to the jet on LBA-SOU impractical - at least until the runway extension at SOU takes place.

BHD will be fine. I would be worried about the future of DUS and NQY though, together with SOU (but for different reasons relating to franchises). NQY is mostly being flown on a BHX aircraft on W patterns in S19 and they are seriously short of pilots at a number of bases, BHX amongst them.

    Flybe

They have advised both airports that the LBA-ABZ route is gone from 3 June. If it returns then it's due to a change of heart. Not totally without precedent but also pretty rare at the same time.

    Flybe

LBA-ABZ is definitely gone from June. SOU also apparently hanging by a thread. Not a good 12 months for LBA's domestic connectivity.

    British Airways

Regrettably this matches the BA slot filings for LHR and LBA for Summer 2018 and it does look as though the route is being cut from 20 to 10 roundtrips per week. The morning flight moves to a mid-morning rotation ex LHR designed purely for connecting traffic, the lunchtime is gone completely...

    Loganair

WhiteHeather, I saw one of the Glasgow management recently. They were not surprised at all that LBA-GLA had been closed as it was stated that they'd known for some time that the route was on a sticky wicket. They would be keen to see it reinstated and saw the best prospect as some Flybe &...

    Loganair

Goodness me, you'd think someone had re-enacted the Great Train Robbery, uncovered the truth about who shot JFK and axed the Glasgow/Leeds route all in one if you read this thread! As a some-time lurker and reader of these boards, here's what the individual concerned had to say in an e-mail...
