I find it hard to believe that the absence or presence of airbridges made any difference in this particular case. Surely these can be installed fairly quickly if needed, as long as provisions have been made (as they have, as I understand it).
And there I was thinking I was the cynic!
I agree that a widened A38 with some bus lanes is the most likely outcome. Having said that, there was also talk about new alignments in places, both south of the airport and north of it (if I understood correctly).
Better linkage with the M5 would be...
Don't know why they would make a statement about that, especially since they'll probably not be able to answer any follow-up questions about it due to confidentiality obligations and such. If it was, say, a planning application being turned down, that'd be different and you could say that would...
Out of curiosity, I wonder how many people in the West Country will actually consider flying from CWL? Maybe people north of Bristol near the M4/M5 corridors? But for myself, I just won't consider it. Not out of spite, but it's just too much hassle to get to, and I can be at Heathrow just as...
There are many benefits of electrification, some short-term, some long-term. Electric trains can accelerate faster and are lighter (no fuel to carry) thus reducing wear on tracks. Electric trains are considerably cheaper to maintain. Electricity is cheaper and can be produced with less...
I've been wondering about that. Do I remember correctly that the airport has applied for an amendment to the original planning application for the MSCP, wanting to build fewer stories? Will it still have the 'transport interchange' on top then, or is the airport first builing "the other" block...
Is that true even if you only have hand luggage? Aren't there "Connections" signs when you arrive? Not that I ever checked where they led to, but I assumed they'd take you back into the terminal building airside.
I've gone through the new security search are about a dozen times or so now, and I'm still impressed. Also love the big screen in the background, now that it works again. The colourful photos never fail to put me in a good mood. As you say, it remains to be seen how things will go in peak time...
They've even added a section to their "At the airport" page, but I'm not quite sure why they're calling the section heading just "Hampton by Hilton" instead of "Hampton by Hilton Hotel" or somesuch. Not sure the H by H brand is strong enough to make sure even the last person know what this...
Interesting, since it's within spitting distance of Düsseldorf. Wonder what this means for the bmi route, or maybe it doesn't compete because bmi to Düsseldorf and Frankfurt serves the business market with high frequency and Cologne serves the VFF market.
What annoys me more is that they're planning on spending £1.6 billion (which surely will end up costing more in the end) on putting the A303 near Stonehenge into a tunnel, to improve the setting of Stonehenge. Laudable of course, but is this really good value for money? For so much money...
It's a link from the Tesco roundabout on the A4174 in Brislington to the Sainsbury's roundabout on St Philips Causeway. The route goes pretty much straight north from the roundabout, left of Tesco, next to Station Rd and Thiery Rd, then under the A4, and continues past the warehouses in parallel...
There were various plans/routes to complete that missing ring road link between the Imperial Park roundabout and Hicks Gate, but I believe Marvin Rees / Labour explicitly decided not to pursue this further because of the impact (houses would need to be torn down etc.)
Apparently the Barrow Gurney route is going to be closed off for a few weeks from Monday as well, I'm sure that'll help ;)
I found the airport's press release / news item not particularly helpful, it's like "here's a new road, go figure out if it affects you yourself".
Would've expected a bit...
Not sure if a large Jewish population is required for this to happen, but a certain pull as a city to generate inbound traffic as well as outbound traffic always helps I suppose, but then Bristol seems to be doing okay so far regardless. Easyjet also operate flights from Tel Aviv to Basel, for...
I've been caught in this situation a few times as well. They would basically stop people upstairs in the walkways and only let them go down into the immigration hall once there's space again. Plus no helpful communication about what's happening whatsoever. The problem is not necessarily staffing...
