Nice pictures.
Ended up in China, on the scrapheap. Cracking paintjob on it at the time, though;

There would be some interesting modelling I think of the suppressed demand from BHX to the US as a result of (mainly) LHR. In fact, from a levelling up perspective, I could see an argument for restricting flights from LHR to the US to force demand to other UK airports - though there will...
One trick is being missed though, i think. My boss travelled to Mecca over the Christmas break. He lives in London, and flew from Heathrow to Riyadh, then an internal flight to Jeddah, then a coach. Despite landing on time in Riyadh, they missed the connecting flight and ended up sitting around...
Not sure if this is the right place for it, but I was trying to find out the other day whether a B747-800 has ever graced BHX with it's presence. I dont recall seeing any pictures of one, and my quick attempt at a search on the BHX Movements site didnt help either (may be user error!).
Anyone know?
Like @Just love planes, Air Canada for me - particularly a direct flight daily to Toronto. There's a massive demand, and apparently its an amazing city (never been).
I'd also say Jet Blue for the low cost US options it would bring.
Part of my vote was what i consider to be realistic. As fun...
I was stood about 20yards to the left of Kev for these landings. First EK attempt looked absolutely fine and dandy until about 20ft above the runway. Second never got close, calling it off more or less as it crossed the (in construction) new link road. Third attempt was a charm though, never in...
The takeoff runway length requirements for the A340 at max takeoff weight are the longest of all the wide-bodies. 3400m for the -600 fully loaded, vs 3000m for the A380 and 3100m for the B747-8 (numbers may not be quite right, im going off memory).
Some pilots have described the A340 as having...
Do you mean the viewing area inside the terminal building (somewhere in the vicinity of the current security hall, if i recall correctly)? I went regularly (ish - maybe 5 times total).
I liked it in there, including with live radio from the control tower (which was almost directly above, no?)...
BCC own part of airport not the whole. The big question is whether the yearly costs of that ownership - including the costs of investments necessary to keep the airport growing etc - outweighs the profits they get out the back end. I dont know what BHXs accounts look like, but i suspect its...
Good video that.
If it helps people follow along, here's the route it took;

RETs are only really any use when you have multiple arrivals or a mix of departures and arrivals on very short spacing. Gatwick and Heathrow have that all day long. At BHX, there are big windows where there is nothing using the runway, or with departures only.
Of course, with landing aircraft...
Bristol is doing well. I dont consider it on the same scale as Birmingham, but the numbers are very close (albeit Birmingham still down on where it was pre-covid). Presumably this is the easyJet base effect?
On that theme, i was playing golf the other day with an easyJet pilot based at Gatwick...
That map of the byelaws suggests to me that its only the bit within the fenceline and which im not surprised they arent happy about. But the footpath is, presumably, outside that - its a public right of way after all. It would only be an issue if they were blocking the PRoW?
Even that said, the...
I disagree on lifts. They will take up vastly less space than escalators or stairs, creating more room generally. And unlike hotels, Ikea Coventry, the QE, etc., the lifts only have one destination - from Ground to First Floor (and vice versa). There is no reason why, with 4, they can be...
Yeh, its on what was the temporary access track for the GAA site.
I dug out the plans from the DCO application;
Green are the existing footpaths, which used to get a nice view of the approach (but you couldnt see the airport. It will remain. But more specifically, the blue line is a...
Hello everyone - long time (not logged in) lurker turned member :o
The footpaths accessed from Clock Lane, as above, are exactly that - footpaths. Actually, one is a bridleway, the other a cycleway. See blue X below. I'm not sure there is any way that you can be moved on from either of those...
It's not HS2 - its National Highways, building a link road to take M42 NB traffic to the A45 off the J6 roundabout. Its not exactly a huge diversion currently up to the M42 and back...

I take the dog fairly regularly to Elmdon Country Park - which has a great view. But with a dog with when-he-wants-to recall it means more time on lead, and theres a bit too much litter for my liking. Great view though. It's also a pain to get to from my location (in Solihull town centre).
So...
