Re: Leeds Bradford Infrastructure & Developments
I'm sure a few people on here, including myself, received an email today from LBA regarding Summer 2016 routes/flights. Near the bottom of the email there is mention of a new Cargo Travel Essentials shop.
I don't recall seeing this when I last...
Re geographical location and infrastructure, the following factors could have partly influenced Flybe in their choice of DSA:
Less severe weather
Improving access links from nearby motorway
Also, having no direct competition at DSA may end up as having balanced to some degree the smaller...
Whilst not officially confirmed, the Wiki page for DSA indicates Flybe will be operating to Aberdeen, Alicante, Amsterdam, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Jersey, Malaga and Paris.
Re: Extrajet = New Business Airline setting up @ LBA!
Great news, didn't see this one coming. Could be Brown Air from the 1980's all over again!
Whilst I wasn't expecting fares to be low, should this come off I do hope they might offer some fares lower than those quoted on their web page...
I was always dubious of the Aberdeen figures when Flybe and Eastern were head to head. Nov '14 was 587 passengers and Jan '15 just 391, this with thrice weekday Q400 and thrice weekday J41/ER4, plus a reduced service at weekends. It's clear the financial numbers mustn't have been good for Flybe...
This would be a great addition, must be 15 years or so since there was last a non-stop connection. I think the only time its ever had anything other than weekend only flights was around 1989 when Capital had a Wed/Sat/Sun service using the Sheds, though I'm also suspecting there may have been a...
Not sure why, but the other Eastern flights departing on that same date result in a return fare of £84, even though all 3 flights that day are supposedly the same price! May still be some good fares available for those wanting to go to Aberdeen after all (for now!). :s_smile
The rail prices for the date you've mentioned are high as Advance rail fares for 30th May aren't on sale for another few days yet (currently only available up to 22 May). The rail cost mentioned is a for a Standard Single fare, which almost always will be more more expensive than an Advance...
From another forum, mention that Aurigny has today announced that it has applied to operate Guernsey - LBA. No details as to likely frequency or start date. One line in article on Guernsey Press website mentions this, so may be some substance!
I'm far from convinced the FlyBe Flyshuttle numbers for Aberdeen, Southampton and Jersey are reporting correctly on the CAA stats published, if December 2014 is an example to refer to. During that month, the stats show the following:
Aberdeen - 497 - down 49%
Southampton - 1352 - down 67%...
Re: Church Fenton - Thread
The quotes I've read to date from Chris Makin have indicated that he sees potential in a few, small, commuter aircraft types operating from Church Fenton, should any airlines be interested. I think the main focus of his investment is to set up a flight training school...
BA need the short haul to help feed many of the long haul services, I suspect the service from Rotterdam may have a higher percentage of passengers ending their journey in London than the LBA service does, given BA will still serve London - Rotterdam, albeit from LCY instead.
The naysayers...
Add the JAT B707 to the Sunday afternoon list too! :good: I remember those years well, even though I was only about 10 years old at the time.
Very true, there seemed far more diversity of aircraft sizes and types around at that time. Many of the more interesting charter movements operated...
'Coffee and tea are always free...' so the saying goes on the SAS flights I took. But that's your lot without paying extra.
Unfortunately, I can't see who would be likely to show interest again on the Copenhagen route in the foreseeable future. It doesn't appear to fit where Jet2 seem to be...
Was reported on another forum that yesterday's inaugural northbound arrived at Aberdeen with 74 on board. Of course, not all of those will have boarded at LBA, but regardless it would suggest that the Fly Shuttle may be off to an encouraging start.
