Nope all looking far to deep in to the reason. Fact is kLM required the 737 on routes that demanded the larger aircraft. It was planned to use the 737-700 on the KL1049/50 and would have added an extra 36 seats on that rotation, Currently the KL1046/54 have the highest daily loads. It's not...
The apron extension has been on the books for years and is shown in the master plan, it would allow for and extra 3 stand up to 737-800.
As said W1 (facing north) and also 26S (facing west) are additions for this summer.
Current list of stands are as follows...
Yep could easily do long haul from BRS, remember flights from BRS would have no cargo unlike from LGW/MAN so that helps massively in performance.
The 787 is Only 6% more efficient that the A330 but is 21% more than the 767
If you remember back a few years Qantas were planning on bringing in a B744, all the equipment was transported over from CWL but ended up going to MAN, the B777-200 is a lot smaller than the 747 but not far off the A330-200 and 787-8 so could be accommodated at BRS if needed, of course it would...
Yes and no, the departure lounge is a mix of domestic and international passengers, the check-in/ boarding staff are responsible for checking the passenger has the correct documents for travel to the relevant destination.
The arriving Domestic, CTA (common travel area) and International...
There not as bad as you think, I've stayed at the Travelodge in LHR a number of times and until I looked on the CIMC website I never knew I was staying in a container.
Just to note that is Future stands 6,7,8 also showing stands 13,14 as 787 compatible, and it will be a long way off before the layout is changed as per the plans. With the current layout, currently stand 26 is able to take the 787 possibly stand 29 as its not far off the length of the 767-300...
Now that the majority of staff have been transferred to Silver Zone from the Old Terminal, this could be the reason there looking to expand.
i beleave the old terminal car park is going to be used for long stay parking, this could be due to the multi-storey being built.
The only cargo that go's out of BRS is airline aircraft spares, Dogs/Cats that travel with a passenger but in the hold and airline company mail. On the odd occasion there may be someone repatriated, technically all the above is not classed as cargo. Other than that there are no on site...
The Travelodge on Bath road near LHR was built by the same company, TBH it's a nice little hotel and also looks great, I also didn't know I was sleeping in a container until the other day.
Here's a link to the build process.
I could see one being installed on the western walkway for stand 26, but the 787 is to big for stand 4 with the apron in the current config, if they did put it on stand 4 it would close stands 8&9.
