Great video Jfy. I counted 22 aircraft on the ground. Blimey,I recall the days when we were thinking it busy if there were 10 on the ground. The airport and NEC look very impressive.
Came over my house (in Essex) also. Kids got excited..."is it going to see Grandma" Been spending some time this wonderfully hot and dry weekend in the garden with the kids and had Flightradar 24 with us. Astonished by the number of BHX destined flights there have been. EDI bound flights also...
We need taller buildings in the city centre. Too many stubby towers being built. In that location close to the Bentham Tower, and Clydesdale towers, another 40 or even 50 storey tower would have been great. Still it is better than what is there at present.
Legendary band and legendary idea...can see the advert now: smiling faces from a multitude of countries all heading to airports, or at airports or on planes, and cut to shots of assorted airlines in flight, taxiing, taking off and cut to shot scenes of people from all over the world descending...
I agree. I see them come over my house en route for Heathrow and they do not look like much, but when you see the size in context, they are huge. As a compact airport the size is even more prevalent at BHX.
Just heard Hotel California which has got the old heads cells thinking as I wallow away a few mins sipping me beer in the garden: songs about places that you should be able to fly to direct from BHX but as yet you can't.
Starter for 10: San Francisco (Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair)
Pikelets!
Hey, well done Leicester City. A Bluenose myself, but like most neutrals, celebrating a remarkable victory of hard work and team work over big is better.
Ray, I would be very happy with both. I think the south American market is the most untapped from the UK. Rio charters cannot be far away. Finnair to Asia would be good. Like to see more in Africa - the African boom is near.
What a year. How exciting is this getting? I grew up in Solihull and I recall the dark days when the route network was very uninspiring for such a great city. Now I see something that I thought it would not see. Confidence. We can say with confidence that BHX is going through a major period of...
Like Brummiegen I have also been monitoring the comments on here. Whilst any new base at BHX would be welcome, I don't believe Jet2 is the answer. I would rather see Norwegian and others who have global point to point aspirations. The Jet2 market I fear will just compete with established routes...
I agree on the Commonwealth games bid. I still have my Bring the Games to Birmingham 1992 beer mat!
I also think a good move would be a Tour de France start in the city. It has done wonders for Yorkshire and after a city centre prologue a stage one out to Warwick, Kenilworth, Leamington...
Random question: does anyone know who the athletes are getting to Rio this summer? Do the British Olympic Committee have an official departure airport through which athletes can have a fast track check in, VIP treatment (and the same on their return if they win a medal) etc. Or do they simply...
I agree to some extent, Ray. On the face of it the announcement is a little underwhelming, but...
...China is in a strange position. World super power but with a low propensity for international travel. That is changing fast and when it does it will unleash a 6th of the world's population. India...
Is there a water cannon salute every time an airline starts up a route even if that route is already served and the airline already serves the airport? Excuse my ignorance on this. Thanks.
