There are currently 35 north-side stands available for use without blocking other aircraft in and capacity for up to 5 more aircraft parked in the cul-de-sacs. In May 2023 two new north facing stands, 17 and 18, will be commissioned on the site of the old terminal buildings.
Whilst low cloud and mist persisted for much of the morning, conditions were generally at or above ILS Cat 1 minima, 750m visibility and 200ft cloud ceiling, with surface wind barely above 3kts. The Runway 27 ILS has been replaced and is available for Cat 3B approaches.
The Runway 27 ILS has been unavailable for about a month whilst a new one has been installed. Commissioning flight checks have taken place yesterday and today which, if successful, will be followed by more ground testing. The ILS is then required to be soak tested for a short period before...
The airfield is currently open from 06:00 to 23:59; however with the continuing reduction in traffic this will reduce further from 25th Jan to:
Monday – Thursday 07:00 – 19:00
Friday – Sunday 09:00 – 21:00
Outside of these hours the airfield will be closed and no flights will be permitted to...
The demolition of the old terminal building will go ahead as planned this autumn to make way for 2 additional parking stands. The start date is dependent on the completion of 3 other projects: Lulsgate House, the new administration building near the southern roundabout, Northside House, the grey...
The area was formerly home to Gate Gourmet in flight catering whose large preparation and distribution warehouse has been dismantled over the last few months. The area will now be used to expand a redesigned drop off car park with some of the the space being used to increase the size of the...
The large orange and white mast that has appeared in the south east corner of the airport site this week is to carry the surface movement radar (SMR). Bristol is the largest airport in the UK not to currently have this technology, which is ironic as it is designed to assist controllers manage...
Stand availability will not be a problem for Bristol this year. Up to 7 Flybmi aircraft were on the ground at times last year of which a couple remain northside. Two new stands will be available for this summer, but 7N has been sacrificed for DHL vehicles.
Internally BRS are forecasting 9.1million pax for 2019 with high hopes of re-establishing a number of the former Flybmi routes later in the year through to spring 2020.
Ref south side developments. The new fire station has been in use for a couple of months and very impressive it is too. The other low building you may be referring to is the new car hire facility which will be commissioned for this summer. Additional work is adding capacity to Silver Zone...
I have some sympathy with your sister’s views, particularly in relation to parking locally and road congestion. That said, night time traffic (or indeed commercial flights at any other time) does not route over Wrington whether departing or arriving either runway: even early turns to avoid...
It will be demolished along with all the other buildings. Not a structure that those of who worked there have much love for - leaky, lined with asbestos and with a terrible view of the airfield.
In respect of the aircraft movements totals recorded by the airport, the ‘other’ flights are highly unlikely to have reduced by 26% over the year. This figure has almost certainly been skewed by the inability to maintain an accurate log of such flights caused by the much publicised IT failure...
Interesting that this news release garners no comments from the F4A community and yet it is the most important change to air traffic control at Bristol since controlled airspace linking it to the national airways structure was introduced in 2006. EFPS paves the way for digital connectivity to...
The problem is caused by the IT failure earlier in the year: the integrated system that records the statistics was badly affected and remains off-line to a large extent.
