Jet 2 to expand East Midlands services

Author - Rob Gill - 12 Sep 2013

UK airline Jet 2 is to add four new routes from East Midlands airport for summer 2014.

The no-frills carrier, which is based at Leeds Bradford airport, will add new services from East Midlands to Jersey, Spain and Greece from May next year.

Jet 2 will fly once per week to Fuerteventura in the Canary islands, Reus on the Spanish mainland, the Greek island of Kos and Jersey.

The airline has already announced that it will operate an East Midlands-Paris Charles de Gaulle service four times per week from April 3, 2014.

I flew with Jet2 from East Midlands for a short Malaga trip, starting last Thursday and returning last Sunday. Overall it was a great trip! They have quite a nice set-up down there at EMA; easy, clean, not too busy. Service was great and flew on the original old bird G-CELS both ways. Outbound was easy enough, early morning departure, plane about 75 people on-board so near enough 50%. G-CELS had a delay coming back however and they boarded us onto the plane and left us waiting 2hrs 20mins sat on the ground. The captain explained that something must have hit the 'flap casing' (?) on arrival on the runway and that a part, he described as something we didn't actually need, needed to be removed, but a couple of other parts had to be removed first. Travelling on my own, and sat in 1D I could see and hear everything that was going on, I didn't mind the delay and just read the Daily Mail (tragic I know).

The stewardess' did their best but some people were rather quite rude and aggressive towards them. Understandably for families with young children, they were restless and the temperature on the aircraft was sweltering. They came round with as much water as they could source but I really don't understand why something can't be done about this rule. The captain explained that Malaga airport were unwilling to allow us back into the terminal and so had to stick on the airbridge. I can understand the captain possibly wanting to keep everyone on the aircraft so when the mechanics were done we could go straight away when a slot was allocated, but it really was unfair on the families, I don't know whether it's an industry standard rule or Jet2s or Malaga/Aena airports but it was uncomfortable to be sat for 5 hours..

Overall I wasn't too fussed about the delay and accepted it but Jet2 had a lot of angry passengers, even more so when they ran out of sandwiches at peak lunch time..! Only 1 free seat returning as well..

I think Malaga airport got itself in a bit of bother a few weeks ago when an aircraft had apparently departed without a sizable number of passengers, yet their luggage still managed to travel. I'm not 100% sure but that's probably why they wouldn't allow you all to go back into the terminal at that point.

Jersey and Pula look to have been removed for next year along with Murcia and Paris. Malaga and Palma seem to have small increases and there's a new route to Enfidha every Wednesday from May.

I'm not up on Jet2 at EMA so I hope that this is correct.

S17 sees new routes to Girona, Naples and Split and CDG makes a return.

Up to 7 based aircraft so I'm assuming there will be increases elsewhere?

Girona has been performing badly of late and I think it's running at about -16% down so far as year on year passenger traffic goes so clearly Girona will be keen on establishing itself again.

Jet 2.

Increasing flights from East Midlands Winter 16/17.

No exact details but confirmed elsewhere.

Could be wrong but It would appear that Paris CDG isn't bookable for 2018. I knew they announced it for 2017 but can't seem to find it at all ok there website. Has the flight actually gone ahead or been canned before it took off for this year?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
