Loganair begins Manchester-Glasgow Six a Day Service as it Flies Solo

Air passengers travelling between Manchester and Glasgow can now reap the benefits of a 50% boost in service frequency, as airline Loganair officially flies solo (Friday, 1 September).

Loganair, which has operated Flybe’s services between the two cities for eight years, terminated its franchise agreement with the carrier last week.

It will now be operating up to six services a day on the popular route, branded as Scotland’s Airline, with the inaugural flight going airborne 08.40 on Friday.

Mancunians will see the distinct tartan tailed Saab-340 aircraft in the skies, donning Loganair’s red, black and white colours.

Kay Ryan, Loganair’s Commercial Director, said: “We’ve been operating this route between Glasgow and the North West for eight years, so we’re acutely aware of the requirements for an enhanced schedule.

“A lot of passengers might not have been aware of the Loganair brand as we flew under our previous franchise partner’s colours, but the quality of service was wholly down to the hard work of our team.

“It’ll be the same aircraft, pilots and crew expanding the number of flights available to passengers. We’ve got an extremely competitive offering compared to other carriers including flexible fares, complimentary baggage allowance and exemption from credit card booking fees.

“We are extremely grateful to our customers for the tremendous support they are affording us, which is translating into very strong advance bookings.”

In addition to the six-a-day Glasgow service, Loganair will be providing flights to Norwich, which it also previously operated under the Flybe franchise agreement.

In total, flights to Glasgow will operate 28 times a week, while Norwich will see 16 services per week.

From Manchester, Loganair will also offer excellent onward connections from Glasgow to the Highlands and Islands, meaning the North West will have access to the most beautiful and remote areas of Scotland for those travelling on business or leisure.

It has secured a codeshare agreement with British Airways, serving more than 200 destinations across the world.

Flights to Glasgow and Norwich both start from £49.99 each way including taxes. Bookings can be made now at www.loganair.co.uk.

Airport Press Release

Interesting that the press release highlights the existing MAN-NWI service but makes no mention of MAN-INV?

Loganair will launch a non-stop flight to Sumburgh next summer.

Flights will run for an initial 2 month period during the school holidays but could be extended.

Interesting. How many UK domestic points does Manchester now serve ?[/QUOTE

According to my post for October statistics:

Aberdeen, Belfast City, Belfast International, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Guernsey, Heathrow, Inverness, Isle of Man, Jersey, Newquay, Norwich, Southend and Southampton, plus London City in the summer.

That makes 15 + 1 seasonable route

Edited to remove Newcastle from the destinations - included in error.

As well as Stornoway, Loganair will also start a non-stop service between Kirkwall and Manchester. Both routes will operate June-Sept initially, but could be extended.

Surely Manchester is now the best connected English airport to Scotland with this news?

It's the best connected airport in the UK by a country mile , infact a factor of 3:1 compared to our national treasure LHR.

Of course detractors would argue demand exists and that lack of slots are to blame.

"But hang on hasn't BA just canned 50% of LBA slots based on 50% load factors "

Surely not :)

Ps I'm sure MAG could make more of publicising the UK wide domestic connectivity. They appear to have snared themselves im a PR bubble with the "Northern gateway tag" when infact there are multi frequency routes from the South West, South Coast, East Anglia and NI / Scotland !

Do we know how Loganair are doing since being guillotined from the FlyBe operation?

Any chance of more connectivity on Norwich !

Don't think this has gone public yet, but as part of a deal that see's Flybe axing its Sheltland routes to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen it would seem Loganair has agreed to stop competing on the Manchester - Glasgow route as of January 19th 2018.
Flybe will continue to operate up to 3x daily Manchester-Aberdeen flights operated by Eastern Airways Saab 2000.

If it is true then it would appear that some sanity has returned to the market? Part of me says we are better to keep the Flybe flights for the sake of the codes-shares on international connections. The other half says, as a Scot at heart, that I want to see Loganair succeed.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
