Somewhat strange goings on here. I'm not clever enough to work it all out at this time of the morning. To explain there was a report in the News & Star on 17 May that Carlisle Airport had been bought by Ettyl Limited who are based in the IOM and that they had also, the previous month, had signed an agreement to buy Stobart Air. Article here https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/...er---carlisle-airports-new-owner-sets-vision/

Some may recall that Ettyl is owned by someone discussed on the other forum who and whose 'airline' (Ettyl) was describes as another Virtual Airline who were offering flights from a number of regional airport to IOM for the TT races using a number of different carriers. I can't recall the name of the chap who owns Ettyl but by all accounts he has dipped his fingers in a number of enterprises and has the odd critic here and there!

There may be a temporary opportunity for an existing UK ATR operator to provide services for Aer Lingus until this mess is sorted out. Eastern, Loganair, Aurigny and Blue Islands could all be in with a shout, if they wanted.

I wonder if Aer Lingus saw this coming so quickly ? Probably out of their hands but it's not good for the Aer Lingus name.

This isn’t something good to wake up on. This is terrible to hear and my thoughts go to those who are affected by this. I just hope another carrier will do the route. This is terrible for our industry and the government need to start helping the airlines.

Yet more bad news, just what we didn't need right now.

My betting is that Eastern Airways will take on the Leeds - Belfast city route ASAP.

At least we do have Ryanair on the Leeds - Dublin route. Even if it's not flying, due to restart in mid July.

The new Emerald Airways operation is still due to takeover the Aer Lingus Regional franchise flying operation in 2022. I wonder if they can be fast tracked, by getting the new airline in the air quicker than initially planned!
Hopefully In the process they could pick up and rehire some of the now unemployed Stobart Air crews and staff whilst possibly acquiring some of the now grounded ATR72 aircraft.

Easyjet did hold 2x daily slots for LBA - BFS route not so long ago.

Outside bet, I Wonder if Jet2 might be interested seen as the fleet has being stagnant for so long?
Interesting. Now could be the time for them to strike whilst there’s no competition on the route and would be nice to see their neos here. With regards to Jet2 it would be nice to see them operate to Belfast using the 737-300 or even the 737-800 putting them to use whilst international travel is cut off.

It may have been one of the best performing but it was just about the last to be taken up by another carrier when flyBe went bust, so maybe theres more to it than we know.

Just an update on my earlier post. Both the sale of Carlisle Airport and Stobart Air to Ettyl has fallen through. Read it here https://www.cwherald.com/news/carlisle-lake-district-airport-owner-goes-into-liquidation/

I'm not suprised and neither should Air Lingus be suprised. I did wonder when I first read that Ettyl were buying both where the money (even though it was probably a fire sale) was going to come from. The name I couldn't remember earlier is Jason Scales and a Google search of Ettyl and Jason Scales should prove interesting. Reading between the lines I think Air Lingus were expecting something like this when they announced that Emerald were to take over the Stobart franchise. It just happened earlier than they were expecting. Will Carlisle Airport close as a commercial entity now?

Easy, jet2, eastern or wizz are 4 possibles on the belfast route, it was one of the best performing routes for flybe when they were in operation, so if none of them 4 airlines take up the route then questions need to be asked!
The first 3 you mentioned I agree with they could be possiblities but with Wizz I think They would more likely be DSA if they were to launch a Belfast route.

That is good news and shows that alternative arrangements can be quickly made when necessary. Having an awful lot of idle aeroplanes helps too.

I expect it will be Aer Lingus flight numbers with a BA CityFlyer callsign.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
