Wall is up! Not a window in sight, but i suppose that might be a security risk with it being the CSZ.

Top floor departures is taking shape too, with the walls and ceiling going in slowly.

Tidy but disappointed about the lack of windows. Thank you for the update nonetheless.

Standard I'd say as I don't recall seeing a security screening area with windows and I've travelled far and wide, But my memory is crap lol. Good to see progress taking place.
The current one has windows albeit blanked out. They could have placed a privacy covering over the windows so natural light could still penetrate into the building.

Natural light is good, but not the inevitable solar gain that comes with a row of south west facing windows. No doubt all the equipment in there will also generate heat. Combined, it will make a hot, oppressive atmosphere, cooled purely by air con which will have to work harder to cool heat that without the windows, wouldn't be as significant. In a nutshell, increased installation costs and increased running cost, and not exactly what's needed in their attempt to reach net zero. It's not as though the customers passing through are going to have time to be staring outside and nor are the staff.

Not disputing any of that but it didn't seem to apply for the terminal extension. Anyway at least they're on with it which is the main thing.

Well no. The actual extension where passengers wait needs windows. Passengers expect light and a view. It's a necessity. There wasn't enough natural light previously and it attracted loads of complaints. But the security zone isn't the place for people staring out of windows and as I said, the equipment in there will generate heat. The area is considerably smaller too than the terminal extension so would be far more unpleasant.

The other issue of course in addition to windows being more costly to install, (especially if after doing so you then have to apply some form of reflective covering), is that they have to be cleaned regularly. Another expense. Being at ground level with all that ground equipment outside, any windows would be filthy much of the time and in need of regular cleaning. It seems to be a feature of this scheme that windows are installed where needed, but otherwise are nowhere to be seen.

Yeah it doesn’t look pleasing on the eye, but I totally understand why it’s been done like that for security reasons..
To be honest the lack of windows won’t be too much of a problem. It’s not as if passengers are going in the CSZ for a long periods of time, well not unless you carrying something you shouldn’t be carrying.

If you employed to work in the CSZ. With temperature controlled air conditioning & heating along with ambient LED lighting am sure the design will combat the lack any natural light coming in. It’s very clever what you can do nowadays.

Oh it’s definitely good to see the building is dry internally again, it should mean works will start progress more quickly.

The current security zone had windows due to the old fashioned layout and the terminal its self.

Modern security zones in most airports do not - Manchester Terminal 2 does not have windows. London Heathrow Terminal 3 does not have windows.

If we go on my travel experience - Orlando MCO does not have windows, New York JFK does not have windows, Palma PMI doesn't have windows, Tenerife TFS does not have windows, Krakow KRK does not have windows - in fact most places I've travelled through do not have windows.

Probably noted before but does the main image here suggest some new buildings to the right?

And a boeing 747 lifting off early in the background, must be due to the extended runway extending back to Scotland lane 😂

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
