If BHX has proved one thing, it's that the existence of a market is far from a guarantee of an airline serving it. Jet2 moved when they saw a gap and appear to have really pulled out the stops to make it work

Impressive in barely 8 years.

But I think the success story is the market it's self. And the airport for securing this.

But let's not pretend however the success in part is due to the failure of Monarch in 2017, and Thomas Cook in 2019.
Playing devil's advocate, Jet2 seem to have succeeded where others haven't.

We always used to go to Monarch as first port of call, but they missed so many tricks in upselling on the flight. I have taken the p1ss out of the Jess Glynne thing in the past, but they are very good at the upsell.

Also, I have yet to meet an on-duty Jet2 employee (landside or airside) who is not cheery and helpful.

With the announcement of LGW as a new Jet2 base, I can see some gateways suffering to an extent and eventually LGW becoming the biggest base. So long as Jet2 can get it's mitts on more take off and landing slots, the world at LGW will be their oyster.
Definitely one to watch! Can see some NEO's from the regions going down to LGW. Hope it's not to the detriment of BHX.

Jet2 biggest base is Manchester. With a variation of flying between dense leisure routes and good frequency to most city breaks. Around 24 aircraft.

LGW has stiff competition on city routes (3 daily) so I imagine it would be like STN. It will be big but only as big as STN. Jet2 are hardly going to compete with easyJet on 5 daily flights to Prague or Krakow for example.

I do see this though that Jet2 will likely consider Egypt even more now.

It's Jet2's biggest base for now. I can see it becoming fortress Gatwick with a lessening at STN. Truly believe that one day it will be their biggest base.

LGW is a massive opportunity for Jet2, but its also comes with massive contains.

LGW being the worlds busiest single runway airport with very limited slot capacity for significant growth. How they have found the space for 5 new based aircraft is interesting...

LGW is also home to potentially the most competitors. Easyjet will be very protective and will wand to defend their market share. This is also the first time Jet2 will be indirect competition with IAG with Gatwick BA and VY bases...

LGW will also fragment the London market meaning in competition with STN/LTN. I suspect LTN is in the weakest competitive position here with competition from BHX/STN/LGW now?

When Jet2 launched into BRS/BHX/STN, the world was their oyster as their main competitors were starting to struggle - Monarch, Thomas Cook etc... but that is definitely not the case for them entering LGW!

Be interesting to see if these routes come at the cost of other routes/frequencies or are in addition?

Looking at my timetable for summer 2027
Alicante will be flying the morning shift before the Egypt flights
Totally agree, ALC, which I use on a regular morning basis, has always been more or less full, throughout the year. Cannot see ALC being dropped from morning departures from BHX, bear in mind so many other Jet2 arrivals into ALC from around UK at around same time!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
