Did anyone catch the Spitfire flying through this afternoon?

    Leeds Bradford - General Thread

The south side would be a better place for an (entirely hypothetical!) new tower, north-facing towers are more ideal in the northern hemisphere.

Correct. Upgrading to CAT II would be a big project, which would take a lot longer than replacing the glidepath aerial has taken.

Yup, the Vulcan did indeed fly through. Down RWY14 and then off to the east of the city.

    CAA Provisional Statistics Update

Flights may be down 6% year-on-year, but there were 8% more flights in May 2013 than in May 2012. That's a big jump. Even better, the passenger numbers were up nearly 20% in May (vs last May) so, even with a large increase in available seats, the load factors were strong.

The comparisons to Ryanair sheds are a bit pointless. These are small regional or secondary airports. LBA is the main airport for the fourth largest conurbation in the uk, and one of the largest geographical areas. It should be better than Ciampino.

    CAA Provisional Statistics Update

2012 was a leap-year, the lack of the extra day in Feb 2013 would account for a 3.4% decrease. So a 3.1% decrease is a slight rise, in real terms.

Anyone who knows about these things would probably be reluctant to discuss them on a public forum, and for good reason.

    Road, Rail & Access Issues

Re: Leeds Bradford Infrastructure & Developments The tram/train link could perhaps be better justified in terms of public spending as it would (presumably) also fulfil a public transport role between Headingley and the city centre, easing the motor traffic on Otley Rd. Perhaps it is also a...

4m ppa could come around quite soon though, given the rate that new services are being announced. If Ryanair pulls something out of the hat for next summer, then who knows?

Good point. Is there something (anything at all) to suggest that this is anything more than the fevered wibblings of some random twit on P.PRuNe? Some aviation forums are crawling with these people. Edit: If you look for the post, you'll see that the £7m claim has been edited out. Presumably...

Tough crowd! ;) The only timescale given so far has been a comment on the airport's Facebook page that it will all be completed in time for the summer peak next year.

Here it is, folks. The increase of 65% in airside space is the stand-out item, for me. That's no small potatoes.

I'm confused as to why the airport would be announcing anything before the work is done. Announce that the airport will be a building site for the next few months and you'll just put people off, surely?

Re-working the terminal internally this winter makes perfect sense. I think it's fair to say that the terminal as it is, is just about at capacity during the summer. The first stage work that is planned for this winter will increase the capacity by 65%, which will be more than enough to...

    CAA Provisional Statistics Update

Given the 13.3% increase in May, August will be the month to look out for. If the monthly pax figures continue to grow by around 10% over the summer, then August could be the month in which LBA reaches two massive landmarks: Year-to-Date pax passing 3m; and the first month in which the airport...
