I find it difficult to see how anybody from Teesside would have such knowledge of any so called deal taking place at LBA. Even if such a deal had taken place it would have been done at director or CEO level in the strictest of confidence and wouldn't have been disclosed to outside circles especially to those at other airports.

Good point. Is there something (anything at all) to suggest that this is anything more than the fevered wibblings of some random twit on P.PRuNe? Some aviation forums are crawling with these people.

Edit: If you look for the post, you'll see that the £7m claim has been edited out. Presumably because it can't be backed up.

Based on what I have heard re the costs of running LBA, I would say that whoever posted that on ppRUNE or whatever its called, is just being daft. No way would LBA pay that amount of money. They might not charge Monarch as much as they could which could add up to a sizeable discount, but it isnt unusual to do that, especially with Ryanair around. Any deal would certainly be Commercial in Confidence. More than likely complete nonsense.

LUFC Pete, your earlier post re charges at LBA would get my vote for post of the week (if there was such a thing!)

Monarch are to have a 2 aircraft(A320) base at LBA from Summer 2013. 13 routes, all of them at least twice a week.
Munich to continue with 3 a week, and much better times! What's intresting is that a couple of the flights will be proper night flights. The flight to Bodrum departs LBA at 2030 back in at 0630 the following morning. What is surprising is that there are no flights to ALC or AGP. All other routes are already served by LS/FR. Sadly no new routes annouced...at the moment.
On another note non of the Monarch flights announced today match up with the TUI/First Choice programme. So thats means either a 3rd based Monarch aircraft or Thomson Airways to operate for TUI.

Sad about not having another operator to ALC however im not complaing! & its good that TOM & MON times do not match up, which means they will be head to head against each other and hopefully TOM will bring in there own metal! Will be intresting to see if Ryanair react to all the expansion at LBA!

Its amazing comparing some of the block times against jet2 (Palma is notable). Welcoming news at last. Now time to expand even more, get that taxiway, rwy length extension, and CatIII inplace and we go to go. I'm now waiting for FR to say ... 4th based aircraft coming!

On look north it was also mentioned that MON havn't ruled out further expansion so if these routes are successful, more routes could be announced soon!

Fantastic news!

From what White Heather said a few weeks ago regarding a possible 14 routes, it looked like a two aircraft base then, which has just been confirmed..!

The airport really is going from strength to strength and should make Jet2 become a little bit more realistic with their pricing structures, which has again been brought up within the forum!

In short, this is the destination list (taken from the LBA website):

Lanzarote – 2 x weekly
Antalya – 2 x weekly
Barcelona – 2 x weekly
Bodrum – 2 x weekly (22 July – 16 Sept only)
Dalaman – 2 x weekly
Faro – 3 x weekly
Rome – 2 x weekly
Heraklion – 2 x weekly
Larnaca – 2 x weekly
Menorca – 2 x weekly
Majorca – 4 x weekly
Tenerife – 2 x weekly
Munich – 3 x weekly

Good to see a few 'different' routes in there also, mainly Rome, and good to see Antalya as well! As others have said, surprised not to see; Alicante and possibly Malaga, but they are heavily covered by Jet2 and Ryanair I suppose.

All in all excellent news, and with Monarch in a rapid state of expansion away from the "Big Four" (Manchester, Birmingham, Luton and Gatwick) of which they have stuck to for many years, its great that LBA have managed to get them here!

Also good to see LBA have more routes then EMA :p I hope these routes are overall successfull and things work out for Monarch and LBA!

Given the frequencie and routes offered, I will be very surprised if Thomas Cook don't utilise these flights now. I note that Antalya is available - previously only served by TCX.

Leeds Bradford also features now on the Cosmos website, although you can't book yet. It seems certain though that they will provide us with another package tour alternative, to add to the new Thomson options, plus Jet2 Holidays and hopefully Thomas Cook group.

The first Monarch A320 aircraft will be based from March 22nd while the 2nd aircraft will be based as from May 1st by looks of things and going by there schedules.

Munich = 2x weekly from December 14th Increases to 4x weekly March 22nd & decreases to 3x weekly April 28th
Grenoble = 3x weekly from December 15th Finishes April 13th

Tenerife = 2 x weekly from March 22nd
Palma = 2 x weekly from March 22nd, Increases to 4x weekly May 2nd
Faro = 3 x weekly from March 23rd
Larnaca = 2 x weekly from March 24th
Arrecife = 2 x weekly from March 25th

Rome = 2 x weekly from May 1st
Heraklion = 2 x weekly from May 1st
Antalya = 2 x weekly from May 2nd
Mahon = 2 x weekly from May 3rd
Barcelona = 2 x weekly from May 3rd
Dalaman = 2 x weekly from May 4th

Bodrum = 2 x weekly from July 22nd

Just done a random check of prices for comparison and Jet2 seem to be comfortably cheaper on a few flights.

Checked a Wednesday flight to Larnaca for 2 weeks at the start of the Summer holidays next year and Jet2 were a good £250 cheaper when it got to the end of the booking process. It was a similar story when I checked flights to Palma and Tenerife with a £200 and a £300 difference respectively, Jet2 being the cheaper option.

Just wish MON could off added unserved routes like Kos (Soon to be) GIB & wish they would take over FUE from TCX

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
