Great chance for me to move nearer the airport.
Hope we build plenty more houses they are urgently needed.
We have driverless cars on the u.k. roads this year, who knows what transport means we have in 20 years time.

Contrasting opinions

There are far too many people living on this small island.

There are plenty of plans for new homes in Leeds, over 60,000 in fact. That will house an additional 200,000 -300,000 people with no additional plans for new hospitals, schools, roads or other infrastructure to support a substantial population increase. They will have to use the facilities that are already at saturation point.

There are too many people on our little island that is the United Kingdom. People are living longer lives. We need to get a handle on Immigration. The councils are still having to make big cuts in spending due to over spending by previous ruling Governments, The NHS wasn't design to handle so many people as it dose now-a-days, The roads can't handle the extra traffic and there's not enough houses to home everyone.

Daft as it seems, I think this is the reason we need another world war.

Crikey, that's a bit drastic.

A third match might get rid of everyone. At least that would solve the NHS underfunding, immigration issues and crowded roads.

Just noticed on the Yorkshire evening post website that Bradford City Council has a £7 million plan to improve the A658 Harrogate Road/A657 New Lane junction at Greengates. But it looks like there is a lack of funds and that they might also need to issue compulsory purchase orders.
I've got to admit this junction has been a traffic bottle neck for a long time and its about time something was done about it. Will help especially now that works have also commenced on the Leeds Ring Road (Rodley & Horsforth) roundabouts.

Deadline warning on £7m plan to ease Leeds Bradford Airport congestion

PLANS for a £7m roads project at one of West Yorkshire’s most heavily congested junctions are facing “extremely challenging” timescales, a council has admitted.

Councillors are being warned that there is a lot of preparation work to be done on the A658 Harrogate Road/A657 New Line junction scheme at Greengates, Bradford, which is a key route into Leeds and to the airport.

Would be the best thing to happen to the planet.

Mother nature sure does have her ways of righting wrongs. The human race has much to answer for, using and abusing the world resources like we do. You could argue she is already at work with her natural disasters tsunamis, Earthquakes, severe weather and diseases slowly but surely trimming down world population.

(Do we need a new thread in the General Discussion forum?)

I think you need to run for parliament lbapotter. Anyone who promises to put some major transport spending this side of the Pennines will get my vote...and not just a £38M link road to the airport either.

It's not just up at the airport. Otley Road was queued back past Lawnswood Roundabout this monring (as usual) and yet the council wants to add to the traffic without doing anything to improve services.

60,000 new homes, and I've not seen a single thing mentioned yet about new transport systems, roads, schools, hospitals, GPs.

Not to forget the additional power consumption considering we keep being threatened with power outages by the national grid.

LBAspotter, do you happen to know what the council plans to do with the Greengates junction? £7m seems a decent sum of money for a junction?

I see that the the go ahead has been given for a £100m link road from the A6 to Man. The scheme is due to start in March this year and take 2 1/2 years. What price now a single carriage way link from the A65 to LBA!?

ls27: Is not the link road called the A658.
Truthfully I not have a sat nav, but do know coming in by road from the motorway networks, north, south east or west I would not follow the road signs, as usual they take you the route the local authority would like you to take.
Consulting like an oldie like me something old fashioned as a map, opens up a multitude of routes, not sure were a sat nav would take you say off the m1 in to Leeds from the south.

I'm the same, I never follow the road signs to the airport. The airport is sign-posted from the M62 and it feeds you through some shocking traffic hot-spots through Bradford. From the South on the M1 they lead you onto the M62 heading away from the airport initially only to hit traffic hot-spots again around the Leeds Ring Road. For me at least I prefer to go straight through town following Burley Road and through Horsforth rather than going past Cardigan Fields and Morrison's where the traffic queues forever. The "official" route from the south might be better once the work at Roldey and Horsforth roundabouts are complete.

I am glad there is someone else like, you can't beat a map and your own brain!

That's fine. It's when they're playing music from their devices (without headphones) that's the problem! That and putting their feet on the seats.

Bigman, a phone is no longer just a phone. It's a game; an organiser; a diary; a clock; an alarm clock along with many other handy applications such as flightradar24 ;) . Don't take offence but you don't have one so I don't see how you can criticise them really!! :whiteflag:

Have to agree smart phones have totally changed my life, especially my business life all for the good.
Unfortunately there is always a down side, having tried Apps for books, papers, maps, I have returned to hard copy.
However, to find cheap flights/hotels cant do without, never mind keeping in touch with this forum.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
