Does anyone know what plans (if any) there are for shuttle services to the new Apperley Bridge station once it is up and running? I cannot see that a once hourly 747 would be much use as it stands.

Good to see that the proposed Airport - A65 link road (Supported by the Government) is included in the list of 30 projects to be completed by 2021 as part of the £1.4bn Transport improvements that were unveiled by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority this morning.

Alot :s_dunno
They have got to build a link soon surly? if they want the region to grow, then a better accessible airport is a must! a major road link such as a link like the m621? better routes from places like halifax due to us loosing out because of better links to manchester throughout basically the majority of west yorkshire!

When you look at the sort of money other cities are being given to spend on various infrastructure improvements, the cost of an airport link road for LBA looks negligible. As a resident of Aireborough, I would like to see the plans go much further. I would like to see a new road pass the airport and carry on down to the A65 at Burley in Wharfedale doubling up as Aireborough bypass. It would serve the local community as well as providing a valuable link for passengers getting to LBA from both the South West and the North West.

In case anyone is interested I was in my local library recently and glanced through a hardback book Buses Yearbook 2015 which is a sort of annual for bus enthusiasts.

The book includes an article by a local man called Tony Greaves about the history of bus links to LBA. There are eight glossy colour pictures of the vehicles used over the past half century together with a narrative that also touches on the history and development of the airport.

Leeds City Council has given the green light to developers for over 2000 new homes in the area immediately surrounding Leeds Bradford Airport. This will only make matters worse for the road network around the airport.

Can I ask-- in what way will it make matters worse-- will it make the existing roads more congested or will it use land that could be used for airport matters or the proposed link to the A65?

The roads are already at bursting point and new houses will add to the congestion.

How can you give planning permission for 2000 houses without improving the infrastructure?
We live in a "car society" today, most new built homes will bring residents with at least 2 cars, so the roads will be even more congested.
Will our politicians ever think things through? Oh, I've just remembered, it's election year!!

Do we know exactly where these new homes are to be built in the Aireborough area? It amazes me that they never built a new park-and-ride station at High Royds to cater for all the new homes built around the old nut house.

The plans will no doubt say that 50% of them will use public transport, so it will only add 1000 cars and the road study they did on a school holiday wednesday at 10.45am shows there is easily enough capacity for those.

In reality it will be more like an extra 4000-5000 cars adding to the rush hour commute.

Still, the friends of politicians and councillors in the construction industry will make nice wad of cash out of it.

Actually, give Leeds Council some credit here. When they gave consent for the housing development in Horsforth (now underway and being built near wher Sandoz used to be) they insisted that the house builders at least part fund the road improvements at Rodley and Horsforth Roundabouts, thereby reducing council costs for carrying out works badly needed. They did the same to LBA regarding the Dyneley Arms traffic lights when they approved the still awaited terminal extension, so chances are they will do something similar again. I have seen nothing to indicate where in Aireborough the new homes will be though, and they may be a couple of miles from the airport. It is jumping the gun slightly to say they will make the roads around the airport worse - and it may be that the airport link road will be built before the houses!!

Now there's an idea. If they decided to build a load of new homes between LBA and the A660 near Bramhope, the developers could be asked to pay part of the costs for the new link road, and possibly a new park-and-ride station. Might make a park-and-ride station more cost effective and would not just be seen as being a parkway station for the airport.

That would be a good plan. But it looks like the planned new Airport link road goes no way near Bramhope or the Tunnel see below for planned route. On a plus side I have heard that there is a plan by Metro and the Airport owners to link the new (currently been built) Appley Bridge Train station with a non stop bus service once it opens. Was told by someone else recently that it had gone out to tender to several local bus operators..

And here's a map of where all the planned 66,000 new homes to be built in the Leeds area before 2028.

If that map is right, it seems to indicate new houses in the field between Glenmere Mount and the runway. Surely this would have issues with the ILS!!

Great chance for me to move nearer the airport.
Hope we build plenty more houses they are urgently needed.
We have driverless cars on the u.k. roads this year, who knows what transport means we have in 20 years time.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
