    Birmingham Airport Cargo Operations

What is causing this cargo spike? Could the airport invest in better cargo facilities as a result? It has never been much of a cargo centre, with EMA so close, what was the point, but in addition to the big long hauls, I have noticed a spike in EU operations. All good stuff.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68768084 I was always sorry to see the wheels park go, at it was such a useful facility. But if it is going to be reused I cannot think of a better use.

Thanks MB1. I live in Essex so I have not been to the airport in quite a while and I was not sure of the situation. Opening the stairs would help. Silly wasteful bad publicity....again.

If the only way through was via one lift, then the entire airport should be closed as it is not fire compliant. Does it not have any stairs?

    Birmingham Timetables

Brilliant work Matt. What it highlights to me is the lack of daily departures to major cities. Brum just not creating the loads to boost frequencies any more. Over 120 destinations is one thing, but two flights a week to somewhere like Stockholm is an issue.

    Route Development & Rumours

Glider pilot: Sadly, I agree. bHx is a cheapo resort airport. As the FT said many many years again, MAN covers the north and LHR covers the south because of geography. We on the other hand cover the beaches of cheapo Med destinations. Whooohoo. Geography sucks sometimes. But every now and...

To think that these developments in Digbeth as just the start of what will become one of the most creative locations in the UK and Europe. And a long neglected, but historically valuable area regenerated. It was after all the heart of the industrial revolution and the home of thousands of small...

    Birmingham Airport - General Thread

Another fine misonformed headline bashing from the BBC. It is Mitie whose reputation is shot for failing to deliver against a contract, not BHX. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9e87ev38z8o The BBC is either kicking us to bits or boring us rigid with Taylor bloomin Swift every two minutes!

UK Central should be the name. The centre of the UK.... ....yes I know, before anyone says, 'its not the centre of the UK. Soligbury in Derbyshire or Yorkshire or Northumberland or South Scotland is....' .....trouble with Midlands Gateway is...what are the Midlands? They mean nothing to most...

    Wizz Air

Another factor could be the new border controls due later this year. For that reason our family holiday is Scotland, by car. Anyway, shame to be losing WIZZ even though they are not the best service.

And start of the Tea Factory the new regional HQ of the BBC, new Smithfields master plan announced, 33 floors approved in Broad Street and SBQ another step closer with the approval of the demolition. All in a week. There is no easing off. Looking forward to next week.

Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

One thing that is really bugging me about storms: For the love of, well, everything, please, please, please no more bumpy landing or go around video on the national media..... Yes it is a bit wobbly in a storm...we get it.

    POLL :- Long Haul Airlines

Love to see a South American connection but have not got a clue to where. Lisbon and Madrid have it all covered, plus LHR. I agree with Karl C, and Ethiopian would be a good option. Africa is a long term growth market. Ethiopian are lining Addis Adaba as a continental hub. 1,400 departures a...

These things happen (I could have used the other term). I wish people who stop whining all the time when they do. I am sure all was fine in the end. Better to have a delay than not arrive at all.

Just watching the Airport Action guys on youtube. Wow what a day. Pleased everyone arrived safely. Airplanes are big but they struggle when faced with air molecules moving at speed. Great videos.

Airports are shopping centers with some thumping big bits of transport infrastructure attached. It is the retail that makes the money that keeps the transport bits function. So if you start taking you mega renters away from where they can maximise their income and the airport maximise it's...

Thanks Coathanger really valid points. As with all headline stats, you need to scratch away at the surface to reveal the real story. (Just look at the inflation deceptive figures...) You are right about EDI. It is a thriving airport that has developed into the premier Scottish Airport - sorry...
