Eastern are not taking on extra routes, rather all Air Southwest routes are being shutdown as Plymouth City Airport is also closing down and Eastern deemed it 'not financially viable' to just operate out of Newquay. These routes were already making losses anyway, but they are still a loss for...
+1!! The short runway length WILL hold the airport back in the future if it is not sorted out (which hopefully will be included with the work to do with 'the masterplan'). A longer runway would allow long haul routes to be developed when capacity was there. I'm not in the industry by the way but...
No worries A300boy! I am knowledgable in the subject and understand that takeoff distance varies with a large range of factors (e.g. weight, altitude/air pressure, temperature, wind, runway slope, runway condition etc.) 5600ft is the takeoff weight for a Boeing 767-200ER at MTOW at sea level...
If they could find some B767-200ER's this would be the ideal aircraft for Orlando/US and Carribean as even at MTOW it's takeoff length is only 5600ft, and it can fly up to 7000nm! I definitely think LBA has the capacity for 2X Weekly B762 to Orlando in the Summer. B767's are very unlikely though...
Thanks for the information aroosh. I would think the next realistic step for the airport now is to re-instate the thrice weekly A310 service if a twice weekly B772 is not an option, and as you say, that option is more likely to attract additional passengers to the route.
Jet2 do have some...
Here's proof that B738's can land in wet conditions even on runway 14, even B763's can!

As regards CAT3 approaches at LBA I have witnessed even jet2 B757's perform them during low...
I agree completely, a New York route would be extremely beneficial to the Yorkshire region, the only problem I can see is that Continental only have 2 daily services from Manchester using the Boeing 757-200 so there is no where near the capacity of their Dubai route (another long haul...
I agree, they clearly have no forward planning strategies in place as they just seem to "go with the flow" and change their minds about things all the time. Servisair already have the equipment so I can't see them being too pleased about this either. In the short term there won't be much loss of...
Websites are often updated after official confirmation, which has not been received yet from PIA. As others have indicated this will probably be very last minute knowing what PIA are like!
The demand for flights to Dubai is huge and LBA is a prime candidate for an A330 service to Dubai. I very much hope that this route will come to fruition as it would make LBA's connections to the Middle East and onwards to Asia and Pacific regions much better. Clearly the demand is there for...
Excellent news! tomleeds you're completely right, I bet it will be buzzing with people on the first flight! Does anyone know for sure that the B777 service will continue immediately after this first flight or will there be a short period of time where the A310 operates?
I agree completely as when the Gatwick route wasnt doing well we blamed the fact that Gatwick was too inpractical for business travellers which are the main market on a London route. Considering the amount of time it takes to get from Southend to the centre of London, the business traveller may...
