Thanks for that Aviador.
Travelling to Madeira in a few weeks. Sadly, I'm led to believe the new CZS won't be open by then but hoping that the new duty free area will be finished.
I flew to Naples in April, ashamed to say it was from the airport over the hill with TUI. I also experienced the...
Concerned in what way?
A bit of a broad statement from where I'm sitting!
Given you're saying it's specific to LBA and loads on certain routes are reasonably healthy/heading in that direction, as highlighted in this thread, is it more to do with operational/infrastructure concerns or...
Remember, it's LBA you're talking about. I doubt there is any other airport in the UK that has had as many hurdles to over come in it's lifetime!

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the first Concorde flight into and out of LBA.
An Air France aircraft graced our concrete with its presence on Sat 2nd August 1986.
It was very........ Windy! In true LBA fashion and the landing looked a little bumpy!
Isn't Funchal the same? I know it's a "Captain Only" airport, would that imply special training as well?
It's a Jet2 weekly destination, travelled every year from LBA for past 5 years and going again in September.
3 or 4 of the flights have had 2 Captains flying the route.
I really am unsure why there is so much negativity. The extension is an infinitely better experience. Everyone I know who uses LBA says so.
The airport really is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't in respect of shopping/customer experience.
I might have agreed about the duty free shop...
I agree WH. However, to be fair in those early years of the Britannia operation (late 70s to early 80s) they really would have a fair crack at landing, at times, in some abysmal weather, with an offset localiser to boot. I often saw those trusty 737-200s have several approaches before giving up...
Not sure whether it's been said before but I'd love to see a small outlet selling wholly Yorkshire produce - just a little bit of regionality amongst the multi nationals!
We queued outside the Corfu terminal on our return to LBA in June. The queue was that long it snaked the full length of the terminal 3 times! Nobody moaning and no doubt there'll be plenty back to do it again in future. In fact it wasn't just departures, whilst we were being bussed to the...
Whilst watching the footy last night (France v Spain), it brought back memories of the Euro 96 game at Elland Road between the 2 teams and the fantastic and extremely busy day at LBA.
It had me thinking that given the scale of the operations we currently have, would the airport have the...
A big thank you for that Aviador, all seems well considered.
Why have the airport never looked at that?
I have always thought that landing was a bit tight on 14 (and really do prefer to see Leeds City centre when I'm on a flight into LBA!) and that was the crux of larger jet operations.
If...
I'd love to see it as I've often wondered just how much re profiling would need to be done.
There is or used to be a quarry on the Chevin, if only the operation hadn't been extended across the top!
I'm not entirely sure about that in respect of the TUI Airways flights. They seem to be Marella Cruise centric and I feel that most cruise goers would, unfortunately, follow them to DSA!
My wife and I flew LBA to CFU to join a cruise last year and a lot of people on the flight/cruise were...
It goes without saying that AENA would have been extremely diligent in their approach to buying the majority of shares in LBA.
I highly doubt they would have parted with their brass if they had sniffed out any issues with the airport or if they didn't think that it had potential.
