If they want to cut the cost of HS2, the best thing to do would be to forget the Eastern leg and simply extend the Western leg from Manchester through to Leeds. Thus HS3 (Northern Powerhouse Rail) becomes part of the same project.
No way, that would be the worst outcome for Leeds... A branchline off Manc with no journey time improvement to London... Why not cut Western leg and send Mancs via Leeds.

HS2 funding and money for more cycle lanes been announced....I'm guessing which one we will forge ahead with in Leeds at full steam in the next 20 years.

For our last trip we traveled from the East Coast by train to Leeds and then on the bus to LBA. Our trip to LBA was good both rail and bus (except that I found my Bus Pass had lapsed 2 days earlier). Coming back yesterday, we caught a bus from LBA at 5.15pm and when we got to the Fleece at Horsforth we stood there for 10 mins (with engine running). I asked the driver if there was a problem and he said no. On asking why we were stationary, he said he had a schedule to work to.
Does anyone know (or have experienced this), if this is a regular situation because I do not think it will encourage people to use public transport to LBA especially when you have a train to catch.

I work for a different bus company in leeds and it was the school holidays this week. It's been quiet on the roads. he could have reached a timing point early. less traffic/customers etc? They cant go past certain points if they get there early due to fines issued by metro for early running.

I obviously do not know of traffic levels between LBA and the city centre, but surely it doesn't take 25 mins to travel between the Airport and Horsforth.

The next big idea is to remove the roundabout altogether (that keeps traffic moving) and replace it with just traffic lights that will stop all traffic in each direction for 5 seconds every cycle. But, as we're talking Leeds City Council, we'll also throw in a brucy bonus of a couple of new cycle lanes and maybe stop all traffic for cyclists.

I have just checked the 757 bus timetable and the 17.15 from the airport to city centre is scheduled at the Fleece at 17.41, that's 26 mins. The previous and the following bus are timetabled to take 20mins. Does the traffic vary that much in less than 30mins?
The driver was quite right, but very frustrating when you have a train to catch.

Can't use the train for my next trip, I will have to use the car.

Isn't the 757 subsided by the airport? You would think the only important time to meet is the departure time from the airport. Let Horsforth folk catch the service buses.

I think it was reported here but, It was reported late last year that bus drivers were saying it is now impossible to keep to a schedule on the A65 because traffic is so bad.

The A65 is just awful, between canal road lights and morrisons/kirkstall hill junction busses loose all there time there too many lights and cars rat running from burley riad

Kirkstall Hill is not synchronised at all. Absolute f***ing nightmare. The trouble there is they've built two retail estates which require there own set of unique lights. Hence your problem. But they don't sink them at all. Welcome to Leeds. Welcome to Leeds City Council.

I think if your using public transport you need to factor in a huge window of time to ensure you catch your flight., I dropped my son off at 7.15am at Guiseley for a 12.15 flight to Bergen, he made it to Manchester airport a 11.30, around 90 minutes later then the timetables state.

Coming back from the airport, the real problem is Horsforth roundabout. There is no way of getting 2 lanes of traffic down to the roundabout until around 50m from the roundabout. This creates huge backlogs of traffic at times which have been known to go right back to the JCT roundabout in Rawdon. It all depends on what is happening on the Ring Road as to how long the jams are.

Quick question, whats it like say late morning midweek and outside of peak?...coming up the Ring Road from Pudsey to the Horsforth RA..Doing it in April..thanks

Seriously what are LCC doing with their transport strategy! Clay pit lane has now been closed 5 days due to cladding coming from the building opposite the arena. Its causing mayhem and is pushing traffic onto the outer ring road which in turn brings the headingley route in, armley gyratory, and the a64 leading to it to a standstill. How can we ever hope to attract businesses and look like a viable City when work hasnt even started on one of the main roads into leeds? This work ( knowing it's a key route) should have been ordered to be finished within 48 hours and tough financial penalties introduced if not...think of all those emissions from standing traffic LCC!!!!!

£300m direct rail link proposals for DSA...

Nice to see it done properly but there gonna be empty trains.

My response on the DSA thread was as follows

"Only £300m! It looks as though Peel are once again are offering up the begging bowl for someone else to fill so that they get the opportunity to sweat their asset some more.

Congratulation to them though for getting some good support for the scheme by latching on to current buzz words and Government's stated objectives. All in all a well written and thought out press release."

Shame LCC don't support LBA in the same way as the DSA local councils or councellors do. Please take note LCC and act as appropriate to support the area and local jobs.

To be bluntly honest i fail to see why plans for a rail station at DSA has appeared on in this LBA Road, Rail and Access issue thread.

If you want to talk about the new proposed rail station 40 miles down road at DSA, please use the following link https://forums4airports.com/threads/379/

Can we please revert back to discussing the proposed LBA Parkway Station. Roads and Access issues thank you!

It's to illustrate a point...

Many people say a direct link to LBA impossible due to cost yet far less popular DSA making their case...

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
