Thomson plane makes emergency landing at Paphos

A BOEING aircraft operated by Thomson Holidays was yesterday forced to seek an emergency landing at Paphos Airport after one of its engines reportedly stopped working.

The captain of the plane, which was coming from Luton Airport and was scheduled to land at Paphos airport yesterday morning, issued a distress signal, putting the airport on a state of alert.

The plane eventually landed on time and without problems, with all 200 relieved passengers and crew members deplaning safely.

The plane, which landed with just one working engine, has remained at the airport until the company’s experts come from England to sort the problem.

Travel firm TUI is moving its only aircraft based at Luton to Gatwick where there is more demand.

I cant really believe ' low demand ' isnt Luton the original package holiday airport , Loraine Chase and all that. More like they are being squeezed out.

Plus Easyjet are doing a lot of package holidays now, and well priced. Its a shame really , Britannia Airways and Thomson were a good brand before the LoCo boom.

It's what you get when you get ignorant top board who believe there product is the best and not to adapt.
It's what you get when management do not go for expansion (new planes - A321's to replace B75 etc) and growth but instead the same ol stale mate.

Had they had A321's etc they could have expanded LTN in light of STN been announce by Jet2. The alternative at the alternative airport but failed.

TUI sadly are heading towards been a very minor airline at the major bases with very little to offer elsewhere. Well not where Jet2 are anyway.

What we are looking at here is a managed declined strategy.

It would appear history is repeating its self. Luckily I believe the long haul operations will survive but short haul will move away. I feel for TUI though - the minute easyJet figure out they can make more money offering their own easyJet holidays on flights or Ryanair can make more money elsewhere. They are snookered.

At Manchester, Birmingham and Gatwick they have large operations. Bristol, Glasgow and Newcastle they have decent sized presence as well.

The last throw of their dice will be dependent on Doncaster reopening, some hope..Then throw loads of jets at it with multiple routes at high prices, forgetting, or simply ignoring that it still doesnt have that critical mass of people that caused it to fail before..
It really just seems to be a company that hasn`t got a coherent business strategy, instead lurching from idea to idea...dartboard comes to mind.

I mean using partner airlines is nothing new , they have been using EasyJet’s flights for years where they dont have their own. They are a package holiday only op , their flight onlys are too expensive. They seem pretty vulnerable I feel.

Well interestingly with the airline they seem to want to lessen the reliance on TUI Holidays and offer more seat only options. I know TUI don't get a lot of love on this forum but for many of the smaller airports they're a key partner and if something happened to them it would be a disaster.
