I think it was from the start of this summer's schedule. There was even mention of a third flight on certain days (a night stopper I think) at one stage but Ryanair entered the route which may well have influenced TAP's rethink.

So do you think TAP will eventually increase back to two flights daily next summer maybe or at least 10 weekly? They could even offer two daily with an E190 if they needed to at least it provides more frequency for passengers.

Seems TAP are struggling against Ryanair and Monarch at Manchester.

Gatwick was decreased to daily along with Manchester this summer. However, this winter, Gatwick goes back up to 12 weekly while Manchester decreases further to a daily 'TAP express' E190 operation. No A319/A320 seem to be scheduled.

Would be a shame to loose these guys as they put Lisbon back on the departure boards and offer more opportunities than the low costs.

According to my previous post and TAP website it said it was back to 319 mainline from 24th Jan 17?

To think we were so close to twice dailh not that long ago...

Given the way Manchester has gone for them in recent months, and knowing Ryanair would likely jump on the route o, I'd say unlikely at this time.

Its a pity, fingers crossed they succeed at Manchester, after all unless they succeed their BHX has zero chance of seeing them, their South American connections would be very useful !

Judging by their website it is 319 mainline from 24th Jan 2017 but TP Express having an e190 for the winter until then.

If TP aren't doing great at MAN I can't see them going to BHX as it is a smaller airport and FR would jump on the route - after all I believe there was cutbacks across their whole network earlier in the year.

BHX could be a contender for a daily E190? feed into South America flights? Pity TAP don't use E170s as they could be perfect to for routes like BHX.

Feb timetable:

1FEB17-28FEB17 MTWTFSS MANCHESTER /LISBON
1.345.7 MAN LIS 1710 1955 FR3952 738
1234567 MAN LIS 1810 2100 @TP 323 E90

It is interesting how the ongoing sucess of long haul routes may start to have an impact on short haul - in particular the legacy carriers shuttles to their hubs.

In this regard TAP must be one of the most vulnerable because it's network is not as large as BA, KLM, LH; its network is focused on South America which has economic difficulties; and Portugal is a hotbed of locos.

Is there any chance of TP launching a summer seasonal OPO as previously mentioned on this thread but never came to fruition or having a resumption of their morning LIS flights with their recent announcement that they will expand once more?

With EasyJet established on MAN-OPO and with Monarch (subject to financial health) having announced plans to join them, there is probably sufficient capacity available to meet demand on the route. A third airline on a niche route such as this would be unhelpful to everyone involved. TAP Portugal has only recently been rationalised due to heavy losses, so muscling in as third carrier on MAN-OPO would be a really bad idea. Restoring frequency on MAN-LIS is easier to contemplate, though this route comes with keen competition from the no-frills sector as well.

A bit of a contradictory statement from TAP yesterday:

We are witnessing an increase in our catchment area for flights out of Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester,

So an increase in demand brings the decision to reduce the number of flights (from a peak of 12 weekly to 7 weekly) and also downgrade equipment to the:

more efficient and very comfortable” Embraer aircraft on some of the routes – Gatwick to Porto and Manchester to Lisbon for example.

Which is a smaller aircraft than the previously used A319.

If only it was easy to respond to press articles with the bulls**t Button!

Catching up on the postings.

These comments are bizarre and contradictory. I wonder if this may hint at S18 planning, but TAP's momentum has been to cut capacity rather than add it.

Surely if you used smaller aircraft you'd increase the frequency as TAP would be targeting the onward connection market?

Surely if you used smaller aircraft you'd increase the frequency as TAP would be targeting the onward connection market?

The primary onward connections over Lisbon are to West Africa, Azores and Brazil - the majority of these flights leave between 9pm and midnight. Our single flight manages (just) to connect to most of these .

TAP morning departures are mainly within Europe and just a few North Atlantic routes with the Azores shuttles in co-operation with Azores Airlines (SATA) operating through out the day.

TAP operations are rather small to operate a rolling hub ala Heathrow/Paris/Frankfurt/Amsterdam.

For long periods the 332/340's actually sit midfield going nowhere in my experience.

TAP is re-increasing Manchester next summer, but to 14 weekly rather than 12 weekly.

This is the extract in local press:

Ao mesmo tempo, a TAP reforça a sua operação para Madrid (a partir do Porto), Manchester, Moscovo, Dusseldorf e Faro, podendo este aumento da oferta da companhia incluir, em breve, ainda mais novidades.

new routes have been announced to the likes of Toronto, Budapest, Bucharest and Las Palmas, while Manchester, Dusseldorf and others will get frequency increases.

Great - is it bookable?

Superb news to get back to two daily, count me as very pleased!

It's on Amadeus but I hope it's a work in progress, as it's a bit random:

TP324 LIS 1340 MAN 1630
TP323 MAN 1715 LIS 2000

TP322 LIS 1420 MAN 1710
TP321 MAN 1750 LIS 2035

So, 2 TAP on the ground for 5 mins, can't see that happening somehow?!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
