Flybe franchisee, Loganair to base aircraft at Norwich

Flybe and its franchise partner announced today that a Loganair 31-seat Dornier 328 turbo-prop aircraft will be based at Norwich.

From 5 March 2012 it will take over the NWI-Manchester route from Flybe 'mainline' increasing frequency to 3 x daily on weekdays.

It will also restore the NWI-Exeter link with a daily flight from 25 March 2012. The route was last flown by Flybe in 2010.

Finally, a summer NWI-Newquay route will operate from 5 May-22 September 2012 on Wednesdays and Saturdays but it's unclear whether this will be a Loganair operation for Flybe or Flybe itself.

Certainly good news for Norwich, Exeter and Newquay airports, all of which have seen huge drops in their passenger numbers in recent years.

[textarea]On Thursday Norwich International Airport chief executive Andrew Bell revealed demand for flights for summer holidays had outstripped expectations, and booking for the recently launched Loganair/Flybe routes to Exeter, Isle of Man, Newquay, and Southampton were also performing ahead of expectations.[/textarea]

Links Air

No official announcement yet but the Links Air booking engine shows Cardiff-Norwich daily, Monday to Friday, from 20 April 2015. It will be possible to fly from Anglesey to Norwich via Cardiff too, so this could fulfil the statement about two new routes centred on Cardiff and Anglesey; ie, Anglesey to Norwich and Cardiff to Norwich.

On the face of things this seems an odd choice. CWL-NWI has been tried in the past and failed with Air Wales ATR 42 aircraft. Admittedly, Links have 19-seaters but it still appears to be a long shot.

Very strange, I wonder why they want to spread their aircraft out so quickly :dirol:

The very same person who worked with Loganair on the short lived Norwich to Den Helder route is also working for Linksair....

Perhaps people in East Anglia do not feel the need to discuss their local airport. Norwich punches well above its weight due to its remote location. The nearest major airport is at Stansted and that has long since lost its KLM connections since it decided to concentrate on lo-cos.
Your forum seems to be almost as busy as any get!

CAA Stats August 2017
56,767 passengers used the airport which was up 2.9% on 2016. The rolling year is 525,038 up 6.7% on 2016.
ATM's were 2168 up 0.8% on 2016.

I wasn't exactly sure where to post this as it concerns all UK airports, however I've read an article concerning disables travellers through UK airports. Of the top 30 airports the CAA has said the top six with assistance facilities was Norwich, Humberside, Birmingham, Inverness, Glasgow and Prestwick. These were rated " very good". Of the rest 20 were classed as "good", while Heathrow, Manchester, East Midlands and Exeter were branded "poor" and have been told by the CAA they must improve.

CAA stats September 2017

Norfolk holidaymakers shrug off the Brexit blues

Norfolk holidaymakers look to be shrugging off the uncertainties over Brexit after more than 1,000 people packed the Norwich Airport Travel Show at the weekend.

Airport bosses reported higher footfall than last year and said the 20 tour operator and airline representatives in attendance promoting their holidays and flights from Norwich had seen brisk businesses.

The show, held in the airport’s main terminal last Saturday (Jan 26), is in its ninth year and has become a firm fixture for people looking to book a holiday from their local airport.

Norwich Airport managing director Richard Pace said: “We had a terrific travel show with attendance up on last year and people queuing to book with the airport’s own travel agency.

“Our sales were on a par with 2018, which is encouraging because its shows that people are continuing to book their summer holiday despite the current political and economic uncertainties.”

Mr Pace said Norwich is offering a bumper selection of destinations this season including a new twice-weekly service to Menorca with TUI, plus twice-weekly flights with Flybe to Alicante and Malaga, and the return of Newmarket Holidays offering breaks to the Italian Lakes.

He added: “Recent research from ABTA [Association of British Travel Agents] shows that more than one in four people will spend more on their holidays this year, and that 2019 is off to a promising start, which is good news. They also said people are increasingly turning to travel agents as trusted experts to get that perfect holiday experience. That’s certainly our experience from the Norwich Airport Travel Show at the weekend.”

Norwich Airport employs around 280 staff and handles more than half a million passengers a year. It is part of Regional & City Airports, the airport management division of Rigby Group plc which also owns and operates Coventry Airport, Exeter Airport and Bournemouth Airport.

Could Norwich be Ryanair's next surprise?
From what i've read elswhere Norwich has invested in a new World Duty Free shop, a new Costa landside, renovated WH Smiths landside, has just completed a Costa airside and is in the process of completing a WH Smith airside as well. With the future of the Flybe sun routes doubtful and Ryanair launching Exeter in 2019 an airport that has the same owner as Norwich, maybe we could see Ryanair flying into Norwich into 2020?

Isn't there talk in that other forum of a new airline for Norwich? Could well be Ryanair.

New café and pub open at Norwich Airport
Norwich welcomes Costa and The Navigator
Passengers travelling from Norwich Airport can enjoy even more choice with the opening of a brand new Costa café and Navigator pub.
The new airside facilities are the latest stage in the transformation of the airport’s catering and retail offer.
The last nine months have included the opening of a brand new duty free shop, a new WH Smith and another Costa outlet in the airport terminal.
In December it was announced that TRG Concessions, part of The Restaurant Group, had been chosen to operate the airport’s catering outlets.
Richard Pace, Managing Director of Norwich Airport, said: “We are excited to welcome the new airside Costa and The Navigator as the latest additions to the terminal, which is fantastic news for passengers.
“It is part of our commitment to providing the best possible experience to the
travelling public and offering them even more choice from their local airport.”
Nick Ayerst, Managing Director of TRG Concessions said: “The addition of Costa and The Navigator shows TRG Concessions’ ambition to give Norwich Airport’s growing audience the ultimate pub and coffee experience before their flight. We look forward to welcoming all who visit for years to come.”
The new airside Costa and Navigator, TRG’s own pub brand, have opened hot on the heels of the landside Costa outlet, which opened in December 2018.
WH Smith also opened its brand new airside shop in December, following a refit of its landside store.
In June last year the airport’s brand new World Duty Free store opened following an extensive two-month refit, providing 200 square metres of walkthrough retail space operated by global travel retailer Dufry.
Norwich Airport employs around 280 staff and handles more than half a million passengers a year.
It is part of Regional & City Airports, the airport management division of Rigby Group plc which also owns and operates Coventry Airport, Exeter Airport and Bournemouth Airport.

My wife and I spent some time in East Anglia over the past week. It's not an area we know well although we have been there on one or two previous occasions.

Our perambulations took us past Norwich Airport several times and we noted how convenient it is to the city centre, with a reasonably quick main road (A140) linking the two.

The Norwich Aviation Museum occupies part of the site with a number of historical aircraft parked up in the open air. We didn't have time to visit the museum but did manage a small diversion one day in order to get a closer look at some of the parked aircraft as we drove past.

Norwich airport is set to go completely private as Norfolk county council and Norwich city council are prepared to sell their stakes in the airport.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
