This the press announcement thats been for the last 4 to 5 weeks 'this Monday' 'next Friday' 'next Week' 'week after next' etc. Until it now comes from easyJet themselves i don't believe it to be honest. They've got a lot going on and they also must be watching other areas of there markets - Berlin and Italy (Alitalia) are two massive projects and investments themselves without suddenly making MAN the 3rd largest base in the UK after LGW and LTN.

Also where are they getting 5 leased aircraft from? It appears Titan's A321 are tied up with Jet2 at STN, the A320's are with BA in LGW, Smartlynx are probably tied up with TCX at there respective bases alongside the Jet2 at BHX so where are they going to get the 5 additional leased aircraft from? Oh the 5 are on top of the additional capacity needs from TXL.

I believe Smartlynx have 5 or 6 A320s operating for EZY out of TXL but i think that is only until the end of March beginning of April so it's possible those aircraft could be relocated to MAN.

That is a possibility ... but who is to say that some of those SmartLynx aren't tied up elsewhere. For example 1 i know of will be in CWL for TCX, from memory another 2 will be at MAN and LGW if Summer 17 is anything to go by. So thats 3 of the 6 gone. Who's to say Condor don't lease any?

I believe Smartlynx's fleet is 12 A320's and 2 A321's according to Wikipedia. I believe 1 A320 will be based at CWL, 1 at BRS and probably 1 at NCL for TCX. 1 A321 will be based at BHX for Jet2 not sure where the others will be based. Plus with EZY the the number of aircraft seems to be varying, some say 18 others say 16 so it might be only 3 required.

Sherburnflyer92 - I applaud your caution re EasyJet ... same mindset here, believe it when it is officially announced. However, whilst I acknowledge that replacing the Air Berlin and Alitalia sized holes on the Continent is an attractive business opportunity for EasyJet, I contend that replacing a nine-airbus Monarch-sized hole at MAN is itself a fine opportunity. Add in the equivalent of a tenth aircraft representing former Vueling and Norwegian sunshine route schedules as well. Those peak-time former MON slots at MAN have come free and if EasyJet doesn't want to take afew of them up then someone else surely will. They may see the advantage of claiming their share whilst they can (just as at TXL, CIA, LIN etc.). The short-term one-off opportunity at MAN is up there with those at the former Air Berlin and Alitalia bases. And the clock is ticking here too. Get those peak time slots now and make this airport an EasyJet fortress for years to come, or chase for scraps to expand with over the next several seasons. By the sound of things, we'll know EasyJet's decision before long.

1) Thank you. Two of us with very cautious minds is a very good thing and to me screams something.
2) This is also true as much for easyJet as it is for the route development and management team at MAG. But as proven by the Ryanair announcement, Jet2 announcement, it's not just easyJet they've gone to. And there's only limited amount of slots that were left over from the Monarch collapse - oh and terminal space.
3) Some have. Would you say that MAG have distributed them evenly? Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet, Thomas cook/Tui (have they got anything)
4) I would say that MAN will not become a easyJet fortress but rather they will come a substantial player at MAN. Likewise Ryanair.
5) And no doubt that we will be debating if the destinations are correct, frequency increases are substantial enough/over saturating the market etc.

Sorry i've numbered it like this mate it is just easier sometimes.

easyJet announcement tomorrow. Well apparently it's tomorrow. It's been tomorrow, next week, next Monday, next Friday, x date, since December.

Yes, it'll be interesting to see their plans for Manchester. I'm given to believe that Manchester increases might not all be announced tomorrow - there may be more to come later.

It’s 10:50 and we’re still waiting. With it been Friday I would imagine half day finishes for senior management are on the cards. So we expecting it to be announced at mid-day?

I don't know who suggested an announcement today, however I will be happy to receive news at any time.

I think that we must remember that anything placed on any forum is only "rumour" until such time as a formal announcement is made.

Time to relax and look forward to a peaceful weekend.

Sherburnflyer92 your posts read like you are critical of people who have posted credible inside info onto this site. At the time of posting these were the plans of easyJet. Up to 20 based was the plan, not just a speculative gesture as some seem to think. However, this hasn’t happened. This does not mean the original info was duff

Perhaps you’d prefer it if people who are in a position to post airline plans keep it to themselves in case it doesn’t materialise? Your scepticism coming to fruition doesn’t validate you. Unless of course you had information that the expansion wasn’t going to take place as proposed?

I would prefer it advanced info was posted on here when it’s credible. It would be even more preferable if people commenting on here were grateful if this advance info (even if it doesn’t work out) rather than dismissing it and gloating when it doesn’t transpire.

According to User001 the announcement has already happened and it was about the A320neo.

No, I’m just saying that this rumour has been flying around for a considerable amount of time. With it been announced next week, next Friday, next Monday etc (all on the other dried fruity forum). So pardon me for been like this, but I’m critical of the fact that they have a lot on at the moment, Berlin, Italian situation to name a few. With the defence of LGW too against BA and Norwegian. On and the loop hole that Monarch have left in LTN too. There is a lot going on at easyJet so I’m aware that they may not expand here at MAN. Due to the above. I’m also very wary that the later the announcement the likelihood of lower then expected bookings and load factors something which easyJet don’t like. That wouldn’t be beneficial for MAN neither, and as a MAN fan I would like to see between 80-100% LF.

When it is announced, I’ll be very happy for easy and for MAN. I gusss we shall wait and see if it is today.

My recollection is that slots were originally put in for 20 based a/c, but it quickly became apparent that there was some duplication of slots between T1 & T2 depending on what was eventually agreed on any split terminal operation.

I'm not convinced that an extra 8 based was ever a realistic proposition. It was then mooted that 5 or 6 additional based frames were probably more likely but even expectations on that have been moderated by some on here.

It's perfectly fair to point out that easyjet have had other big issues to deal with elsewhere, but it is perhaps frustrating that plans for MAN have not yet come together, or if they have, they still have to be announced. Aircraft have to be sourced, schedules worked out, slots approved at origin and destination; and in MAN's case in particular how expansion can be accommodated from a terminal and stand perspective.

Personally, Friday struck me as an unlikely day for an announcement, but who knows....

So what are Easyjet doing at MAN
8 more aircraft
6 more aircraft
0 more aircraft ??
It did seem strange calling a press conference on a Friday then when you do all that is mentioned is the NEO !
There is still plenty of time for S18 or as our friend misread the situation again ?
Either way good news re Hainan and Oman
Compared to BHX it had been a good week for MAN

My view Ian is that the maximum we can expect are 4 additional frames to 16 of which 2 are considered firm, but there were other issues to resolve as I understand it.
I stand to be corrected of course and no doubt we shall discover the actual plan in due course.

Whatever the easyjet outcome, what was pleasing was Ryanair's introduction of 3 more based a/c to 12.

has our friend misread the situation again

Seeing that a few people have seen that increased easyJet activity on slot requests may be you should be saying that ALL the members including at least 1 moderator have misread the situation? Personally, it would have been far too late for route launches from that start of the summer season. i would anticipate that we're look at a timeframe of mid-February through to mid-March for a steady increase in June and perhaps on the start date of the new routes, a new announcement for a winter timetable start for the remaining aircraft. Could all be tied in with deliveries not up to speed.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
