I think it was Larnaca.

I just checked and they do only have a base at Larnaca.

I think they would of come to CWL but they've had bigger fish to fry first. They serve 23 destinations with 6 aircraft and they fly a lot of longer sectors into Western Europe e.g LGW, STN, MAN. They are also launching LHR with a pretty competitive business class product.

There was pretty concrete evidence they was planning to start CWL but it seems they probably don't have the aircraft spare to do it. They've only been round a couple of years and I understand they wouldn't want to grow too quickly.

I think they changed they the way they were going to operate, they now have a business class and seem to be looking at connections to the East.
With Ryanair it does seem that they have lost interest in CWL, if they were going to continue to expand then i'd have thought they would've added another route by now. It is worth noting that TUI doesn't operate Greek routes during the winter, maybe there is a reason for that?

The Greek Islands pretty much shut shop from end of September.

Apart from the new easyJet Athens route I don't think anyone does from Severnside in winter (accepting that Cyprus is not Greece) or from many regional airports for that matter. It's a bit like no flights to Ibiza and Menorca in winter.

When I worked in travel, Greece just didn't feature as a wintersun destination. You had Cyprus, then it was North Africa, Spain, Portugal Canaries and Maderia. Have to say these were the days of charter flights no locos at all, showing my age a bit !

Is the issue mainly that Ibiza and the Greek islands are party destinations and no one's interested?

W ith all the sun destinations shutting it gives hotels and every thing else is historic. It gives every one that offers holidays in season to get maintainece sorted and any alterations done. Also it gives every one a chance to take a vacation their selfs Also I'm fairly sure if a hotel for pure holiday makers get stung fo tax from the relivant goverments. Most hotels in palma shut except for a few is about the only destination served from the UK on a regular basis,i always think its because its the largest baleric island group. A lot of the holiday hot spots don't enjoy the best of weather either.

Indeed. Even PMI sees a huge reduction in its winter services compared with the mass tourism invasion of the summer months.

Ryanair now adding Paphos from LPL for winter 18/19 according (vide Carl in LPL forum), so they are still adding to the programme that was originally in some airports' booking engine for next winter.

It's a shame that they won't add anything new for Cardiff. Makes you actually wonder why they bother with just the 2 routes and 3 weekly flights.

But they might. It's why I highlighted BOH and LPL. Clearly what is currently in FR booking engines for its various UK airports for 18/19 is not necessarily the finished article.

Both flights are operated by a Bournemouth and Liverpool based aircraft though Ryanair does have an aircraft based at Paphos.

It did have more than one at Paphos I believe. Is it down to one now?

With all of the talk of Flybe potentially adding extra aircraft and extra routes if Ryanair were even just to add 1 route especially one they could operate year round that would be a massive boost for the airport considering their profile.

I think that Ryanair's presence can be overdone. They've been at Bournemouth for many years but haven't really done that much for that airport in terms of its growth or profile. No-one else has gone there in a big way. Flybe dabbled a year or two ago but didn't last.

Well Bournemouth does have a pretty big schedule and I'd have thought any routes that Flybe looked at their wouldn't have been Ryanair routes.
For Cardiff having more Ryanair routes would attract new passengers especially passengers that only tend to fly with the likes of Ryanair and Easyjet.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
